Each track in F-ZERO 99 offers a high-speed test of skill and courage. Tight turns, rough patches which slow your machine to a crawl, jump plates, mines, laser barriers and more. To emerge victorious, you’ll need to pilot like a pro and take risks without crashing out!

RACE ON 15 CLASSIC TRACKS

CI_NSwitch_FZERO99_Headline_TECHNIQUE_GB_en.png
power_meter_with_frame.png

The key to victory is your machine’s Power Meter. Colliding with other machines, obstacles or the barriers empties your meter, and you can also spend Power to get a temporary Boost. However, if your Power Meter hits empty, you'll be in danger of crashing out!

technique_crash.png

If your machine explodes, the race is over immediately regardless of your current position. Balance keeping your Power Meter charged with spending Power to Boost past opponents and aim for first place!

TIME FOR A PIT STOP!

CI_NSwitchDS_FZERO99_PitArea_GBen.png

Race over glowing Pit Areas found around each track to recharge your Power Meter. You can also restore Power by using the Spin Attack or Boost to smash through smoking opponents, knocking them out of the race.

TURN THE TIDE ON THE SKYWAY!

As machines collide on the track, Super Sparks will appear. Collect these to fill your Super Meter, then Super Boost up to ride the Skyway – a special raised track that’ll help you get ahead of the competition in no time!

PREPARE TO RACE!

What is F-ZERO?

In the latter half of the 20th century, mankind was gripped by the fear of being invaded by extra-terrestrials. They referred to extra-terrestrial spacecraft as UFOs, or Unidentified Flying Objects. Of course, to those of us in this day and age, such fears sound like a fairy tale...

It is now the year 2560. Due to the human race’s countless encounters with alien life forms throughout the Universe, Earth’s social framework has expanded to cosmic proportions, with trade, technology transfer and cultural interchange all carried out on an interplanetary basis.

what_01.png

The multi-billionaires who earned their enormous wealth through intergalactic trade, while satisfied with their rich lifestyles, also yearned for new entertainment to stimulate their lazy lives. Their wishes were met by a call for a new project based upon a simple premise: why not hold a competition like the high-speed car races that once happened on Earth centuries ago, but on a galactic scale?

At once, everyone jumped at this idea. Rich merchants from cities in the clouds or asteroids with almost uninhabitable environments invested their wealth in the construction of racing circuits.

what_02.png

These racing circuits were located as high up as 300 feet above ground and held in place by anti-gravitational guide beams on both sides of the track. The racing machines developed for these tracks used the very latest in super-magnetic technology and were designed to travel without wheels, hovering just above the course track.

what_03.png

When the first Grand Prix race was held, people were angered at the brutality of the competition. During construction, the organisers had placed various obstacles and traps along the raceway. But as time passed and people grew used to these dangers, they soon demanded even more excitement in the race. In time, winning this race meant earning the highest honour that could be bestowed on anyone in the Universe.

In a very short time, people came to call this Grand Prix simply... F-ZERO.
