Summer is the perfect time to relax and spend quality moments with your loved ones. And what better way to do that than by playing the Nintendo Switch family of systems together? Whether you're near or far, two games that bring everyone closer are Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Party Jamboree.

Why not host your very own ‘Summer of Play’ family games night? Below, we've included some creative challenges to spice up the fun. Feel free to incorporate them or create your own!

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Challenges

1. Avoid Coins

• Objective: Finish the race with the fewest coins.

• How to Play: Compete in a Grand Prix and note your coin total each time you cross the finish line. At the end of the Grand Prix, subtract one point for every coin collected. The player with the highest adjusted score wins!

2. Only Dash Mushrooms

• Objective: Embrace chaotic speeds and master the art of the dash!

• How to Play: Set up a VS Race at 200cc with 'Custom Items' selected, and turn off all items except Dash Mushrooms. For an extra thrill, race on these courses:

  • Rainbow Road (Special Cup)

  • N64 Rainbow Road (Lightning Cup)

  • SNES Rainbow Road (Triforce Cup)

  • Ice Ice Outpost (Triforce Cup)

3. Make a Comeback

• Objective: Outmanoeuvre the CPU and claim first place.

• How to Play: At the start of each race, all players must wait until a CPU player completes one full lap before beginning. Use items strategically to make a dramatic comeback. Increase the CC for an even greater challenge!

Super Mario Party Jamboree Challenges

1. Mario Party

• Objective: Up the stakes from the get-go.

• How to Play: Begin the game by giving each player a two-Star handicap, ensuring that everyone has something to lose (or steal!) from the beginning. Want more competition? Increase the CPU difficulty!

2. Bowser Kaboom Squad

• Objective: Work as a team to defeat Impostor Bowser.

• How to Play: Play cooperatively with eight characters to locate bombs and take down Impostor Bowser. Aim to collect 100 coins throughout the map to activate ‘Bonus Time,’ which deals extra damage.

3. Koopathlon

• Objective: Stay ahead and secure first place!

• How to Play: Your race position is determined by how well you perform in minigames and how many coins you collect. For an extra challenge, increase the CPU difficulty and see who can emerge victorious.
