The history of the royal family of Hyrule is also the history of the Calamity Ganon—a primal evil that has endured over the ages. A prophecy told of Calamity Ganon’s return, and the people of Hyrule turned to their legends for a solution. They excavated ancient sites and discovered dormant machines called the Divine Beasts. Four Champions—Mipha, Urbosa, Revali, and Daruk—were chosen to pilot these powerful weapons, and leading them was Zelda, the princess of Hyrule. Protecting her was a loyal knight named Link—the hero chosen by the legendary sword that seals the darkness.
Despite their best efforts, Calamity Ganon was resurrected and turned the machines against the kingdom of Hyrule. In the end, the four Champions and the King of Hyrule perished, Link was gravely wounded, and Hyrule crumbled to ashes. To protect Link from certain death, Zelda awakened her sacred powers and sealed away Calamity Ganon temporarily. Link was taken to the Shrine of Resurrection to recover.
A hundred years passed.
Link woke up without his memories, but the spirit of the King of Hyrule helped catch him up. Link learned that Princess Zelda had been holding back Calamity Ganon for the past 100 years … but her power was growing weak, and Ganon was poised to come back again.
On his quest to save Hyrule, Link met many allies, recovered the Master Sword, and pieced together his memories one by one. He grew stronger, and when he was ready, challenged a now freed Calamity Ganon.
A fierce fight ensued, and Link gained the upper hand. Zelda cast her sacred powers and succeeded in sealing Calamity Ganon for good — fulfilling a quest 100 years in the making. Finally reunited, Link and Zelda set out to rebuild their devastated land and restore Hyrule to its former glory.
Of course, the journey is still far from over. Find out what happens next when The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom comes out on 12th May.
