Can I still play existing Wii software on Wii U?

Yes. Wii U is backwards compatible with nearly all Wii games and accessories, so you can continue to enjoy your favourite Wii experiences on Wii U. You can switch to Wii mode by selecting "Wii Menu" from the Wii U Menu screen.

Can I transfer my Wii save data to Wii U?

Yes. It's possible to move data from a Wii console to Wii U with a system transfer. This will move across data including Mii characters, purchased content and save data, so you won't lose your progress in your favourite Wii games. 

However, please note you will need both your original Wii console and your new Wii U console in order to do this, as well as an SD Card and Internet connection. 

In addition, please be aware you cannot move individual items of data. All Wii data will be moved as a set. Data will be deleted from the Wii console once transferred.

Do I need both my Wii console and my Wii U console in order to transfer
software and save data?

Yes. In order to perform a transfer of software and save data, you must have both your original Wii console and your new Wii U console to be able to do this. Data will be deleted from the Wii console once transferred

Can I purchase WiiWare and Wii Virtual Console titles on Wii U?

Can I store save data for WiiWare and Wii Virtual Console titles on as
SD Card?

Yes, it's possible to store save data for WiiWare and Wii Virtual Console titles on an SD Card (sold separately.)

Can I play Wii software, WiiWare or Wii Virtual Console titles using the
Wii U GamePad?

It is possible to play Wii software, including WiiWare and Wii Virtual Console titles, on the Wii U GamePad after performing a system update. Titles can be displayed on both the TV and GamePad, allowing you to play Wii software away from the TV. Although this feature allows Wii software to be displayed on the Wii U GamePad screen, please note that Wii software cannot be controlled with the Wii U GamePad. To play Wii software, a Wii Remote, Wii Remote Plus and/or other accessories may be required. Please check the game’s instruction manual for more information.

Can I play Wii U games on Wii?

It is not possible to play Wii U games on Wii.

Can I use GameCube games and accessories on Wii U?

Wii U does not support Nintendo GameCube games or accessories
