Forgot Parental Controls PIN - How to reset

Please note you will be required to call Nintendo Australia Customer Service for assistance to remove Parental Controls if you have forgotten the PIN.

Nintendo Switch Family

Nintendo's Parental Controls PIN reset tool will generate a master key to reset the Parental Controls PIN on your Nintendo Switch console.

Otherwise please find instructions below:

  1. On your Nintendo Switch console, select the orange Parental Controls icon at the top of the HOME Menu.

  2. When prompted to enter your Parental Controls PIN, press the + Button or - Button (Help).

  3. Scroll down to the Forgot PIN section to display the enquiry number you will need to reset your PIN. Do not leave this screen.

    - If you cannot see an enquiry number and your console is linked to Parental Controls App, you will need to go back and enter the incorrect PIN until you are locked out, then press the + Button or - Button (Help).

Nintendo 3DS Family

  1. Select the System Settings icon on the HOME Menu and tap Open.

  2. Tap Parental Controls.

  3. Tap Forgot PIN.

  4. Answer your secret question or tap I Forgot.

    • If you know the answer to your secret question, enter it to unlock parental controls. The system will go to the change parental controls screen, and you will be able to change your PIN.

      • Be sure to enter the secret question exactly as you originally typed it, as the answer is case sensitive.

    • If you don't know the answer to your secret question, tap I Forgot.

  5. If prompted to send an e-mail, select Cancel.

  6. The screen below will appear. Look at the top of the upper screen to see the date your system is set to, and make sure it is today's date.

    • If the date is incorrect, it will need to be changed for you to complete the PIN reset process. You will not be able to reset the PIN until the date is correct.

  7. Make a note of the enquiry number displayed on your system. You will need it to reset your PIN.

Nintendo Wii U

  1. While on the Wii U Menu, press the HOME Button.

  2. Check that the Wii U console's date and time settings are correct. If the date and time are not accurate, you will need to correct the date and time before proceeding.

  3. From the Wii U Menu, select Parental Controls

  4. Tap I Forgot or press the X Button

  5. Answer your secret question or tap I Forgot.

    • If you know the answer to your secret question, enter it to unlock parental controls. The system will go to the change parental controls screen, and you will be able to change your PIN.

      • Be sure to enter the secret question exactly as you originally typed it, as the answer is case sensitive.

    • If you don't know the answer to your secret question, tap I Forgot.

  6. An enquiry number will be displayed on the Wii U GamePad. Make a note of it. You will need it to reset your PIN.
