How to Manage Passkey Authentication for a Nintendo Account
In this article, you'll learn steps for registering, reviewing, or removing passkeys for your Nintendo Account.
Information:
Registering a passkey with your Nintendo Account adds an additional layer of security that can help prevent unauthorized access to the account. When signing in to your account, you can choose to use your passkey to sign in instead of your email address or sign-in ID and password. Your passkey is saved in advance on your smartphone or other device, and this is retrieved by accessing that device when signing in.
Note: Biometric data is not sent to or saved in your Nintendo Account.
Even after registering a passkey, you should continue to manage your e-mail address and password. In the event that you change or lose your device with the registered passkey, your e-mail address and password will be used to confirm your identity.
Passkeys may not function correctly if they are incompatible with the device, operating system, or browser you are using.
What to do
Important:
Please keep the following in mind when registering a passkey:
Do not use a device that is used by other people for passkey authentication. Anyone who is able to use that device could potentially use it to sign in to your Nintendo Account.
Passkey authentication is currently only confirmed to work with the following device/OS/browser combinations:
Using the device you want to use to register the passkey, visit accounts.nintendo.com and sign in to your Nintendo Account.
You can register up to 10 different passkeys with your Nintendo Account. Each passkey is associated with a different smart device or computer.
Select Sign-in and security settings.
Select Passkey, then Edit.
You may be prompted to confirm your identity by verifying your email address.
Select Submit to have an email with a verification code sent to the email address associated with your Nintendo Account. Locate the code in your email and enter it in the "Verification code" box, then click Submit.
If you do not receive the email, but you have registered a phone number to your Nintendo Account, select Use another method to verify your identity on the "E-mail address verification" screen, then Submit. A code will be sent via text message to your phone number—enter it in the "Verification Code" box and select Submit to verify your identity.
If you have not registered a phone number to your Nintendo Account (or the verification text message does not arrive) and do not receive the email, please follow our steps for Did Not Receive a Nintendo Account Identity Verification Email.
Select Register New Passkey.
You can register up to 10 different passkeys with your Nintendo Account. If you want to register another passkey, you will first need to remove one of your registered passkeys.
When prompted, enter your Nintendo Account password then select OK.
Read the information about using passkeys, then select Register Passkey.
Follow the instructions on the screen to use your device to register the passkey.
