Adventure, hoooo! The Mario & Luigi™: Brothership game is launching on Nov. 7. To get ready to hit the high seas on Shipshape Island (part ship, part island—quite home-y), you can learn more about the brotherly duo’s upcoming excursion by watching the video above.

A-boat the story
When the Uni-Tree that once connected Concordia is destroyed, Mario and Luigi must try to reconnect the fractured world one island at a time. Plot their course, spot an island, then launch them out of Shipshape’s cannon to let them get to work. Take control of both brothers and help mend the broken world of Concordia by meeting the locals, solving puzzles, fighting baddies, and lending a hand to grow the new Uni-Tree.
Set sail… on an island??
Yup! Hop aboard and use Shipshape Island as your base to cruise across a vast ocean. On your journey, you’ll have the kindly Wattanist Connie to help you along the way, not to mention Snoutlet, the super-looks-like-a-pig buddy that insists they’re not a pig.
You’ll find and explore different drifting islands that range from lush jungles to terrain covered with magma and ice. Yikes! You might need to dress in layers for that last one.
At each location, you’ll meet locals bursting with personality—but things can get a little lively when a group of rascals known as the Extension Corps surge onto the scene. Get charged up for battle and…wait…what’s Bowser and Bowser Jr. doing here?! Oof—we sure hope they won’t complicate things…
Better together!
As they make their way through Concordia, Mario and Luigi will need to find different ways to get past tricky challenges. Luckily, they have each other! When they’re together, the duo can create Bros. Moves. Fly like a UFO, roll up into a ball, or harness ice and fire to forge ahead and overcome anything that comes their way!
Having Luigi by Mario’s side can come in quite handy! Luigi can assist with other tasks, like pulling up Plug Radishes and breaking crates. Plus, Luigi’s, um…unique brand of logic can lead to unexpected solutions. Will he jump into a barrel and walk ahead of Mario to block him from an enemy’s view? You better believe it. What a team player!
Stop. Battle time!
See those mean lookin’ critters standing in your way—or maybe charging right at you?!! If you end up bumping into these baddies, you’ll face off against them in turn-based combat. Just remember, good timing is the key to victory!
In battle, you’ll be able to control Mario’s actions with the A Button, and Luigi’s with the B Button. Each brother has a chance to act against enemies, but they can increase the amount of damage they do by bringing the other brother into the action. Watch the brothers closely and time your attack just right—if you succeed, the duo will deliver quite the wallop! If you fail…well, um…let’s just say you won’t make quite the same impact. You’ll also need good timing to dodge or counter enemy attacks.
Give your attacks some oomph!
During your adventure, you’ll find Battle Plugs. These helpful items can be equipped to give you a variety of different abilities, like dropping iron balls for extra damage or automatically using recovery items when health is low. You can even set multiple Battle Plugs to create powerful combos.
Uh-oh…did you land in a fight and realize you accidentally equipped the wrong Battle Plugs? Not to worry—you can even swap out plugs during battles!
Want to really wreck some shop? You can coordinate Mario and Luigi’s moves to dish out powerful skills called Bros. Attacks. Will you help the brothers generate an electric attack? Or maybe you’ll shell out some massive damage? Whatever it is, we know you conduit in style!
