Super Mario Bros. Wonder: Jump into the unexpected with Mario and his friends. Surprises ahead!
Yes, it’s finally here! The Super Mario Bros.™ Wonder game is out exclusively for the Nintendo Switch™ system.
Mario and friends have been invited to the Flower Kingdom, just a short hop away from the Mushroom Kingdom. Of course, Bowser is up to no good and decides to ruin everyone’s fun—transforming himself into a giant flying castle in the process. Goodness, that’s even more bad breath than usual!
As you journey to save the Flower Kingdom, you’ll perform acrobatic feats through colorful platforming courses filled with surprises. You can also play the entire game with three other friends via local co-op* or jump online** to help out / get help from other players.
There’s a lot to talk about, so let’s go over the big stuff!
So what’s this about surprises?
If you’re a Mario fan, you may already have a good idea what his side-scrolling platformer games are all about—run to the right, overcome tricky obstacles, and use some surprising powerups to transform yourself. Now, don’t worry because all that’s still in Super Mario Bros. Wonder (you even have the all-new Elephant Fruit, Bubble Flower, and Drill Mushroom power-ups to play around with). However, the new Wonder Flower is what’s really changing the game.
When you touch a Wonder Flower, a special moment is triggered for that course. Pipes can come alive, perspectives may change, or a Bulrush stampede may even carry you off into the sky like a runaway rollercoaster.
What if I’ve never played a Mario platforming game?
Don’t worry—these games are about having a good time, so here are some things to keep in mind:
There are several characters to choose from, but beginners may want to start with one of the Yoshis or as Nabbit. While these characters won’t transform with power-ups, they also don’t take damage from enemies. You can also change which character you play as, so don’t feel shy about experimenting!
You can unlock and equip badges that change up the gameplay. Some of these badges are suited to help out (equip the Parachute Badge to safely float over obstacles with oversized caps), while some can create interesting challenges (the Invisibility Badge makes you invisible to enemies… and yourself!).
Of course, if you want some extra help, try playing with friends via local co-op or online. Both modes were designed around the idea of helping one another.
How does online multiplayer work?
Online multiplayer may work differently than how you expect. While playing online, you may come across transparent characters on your screen going about their business. These silhouettes are actually other players from around the globe! You won’t directly interact with them, but these players may place a standee down which you can use to revive yourself in a pinch. Likewise, you can place a standee of your own to help them out. We also recommend watching how these online visitors are playing to learn any interesting routes or uncover secrets. It’s all about helping each other out!
Note: You can also make a Co-op Room if you want just your friends to show up in your game. With this option, you can also challenge your friends to a race on most courses!
