Things are a-boat to get a little fishy

For some, one of the best parts of gaming is submerging into cod-pletely different worlds. But if you sometimes eel like you need a little air from the main narrative, we’ve got a few games you may want to reel in.

Each of the games below give you an oppor-tuna-ty to tackle a little fishing. We’ve even added some helpful fishing tips.

Explore remote isles and their surrounding depths to unravel the sinister secrets that lie below. Scour the sea for valuables, fish to survive, and meet the locals. Did we mention fight unfathomable creatures?

Tip: If you spot disturbed water with green and gold swirling above it, you may find something a bit more valuable, if not just plain creepy.

Escape to a deserted island and craft everything from tools to creature comforts as you create and customize your island community. Get to know the residents, go about your daily routine, and try your hand at some fishing.

Tip: You can find different fish and sea creatures depending on the season and time of day!

Set out for adventure in a transformed and expanded Hyrule. Harness the power of Link’s new abilities to fight back against the malevolent forces that threaten the kingdom.

Tip: A fishing rod? Link has his mitts! Jump into fishing holes to grab fish or use arrows, bombs, and whatever else you have on hand. May we suggest tossing in Yellow Chuchu Jelly?

As an adorable, possessed lamb, start your own cult and venture into a mysterious region. Build a loyal community of worshippers and spread your Word—not to mention help with some of the chores.

Tip: By leveling up the Sustenance Doctrine, you’ll be able to choose “Ritual of the Ocean’s Bounty.” This ritual will increase the rarity and number of fish you can catch for two days.

Create the farm of your dreams in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you can raise animals, craft items, or tend to crops—the choice is yours!

Tip: If you’re having a hard time reeling in fish, try attaching a Trap Bobber to your rod. This will make it much harder to fish to escape.

Through the changing seasons, explore a vibrant world during the height of “Quietus,” a disaster that visits at the turn of each season. Create a home base, take on enemies, unravel the mystery of the season, and maybe do a little fishing along the way!

Tip: Fishing can be a great (and quick) source of in-game income!

An ancient evil is about to reawaken, and you’ll need to befriend and fight alongside new and legendary heroes to stop it.

Tip: When fishing, remember that if a fish begins to struggle on your line, tilt the L Stick in the opposite direction. So, if the fish moves left, move your L Stick right!

Welcome to Olive Town, a peaceful community established by your trailblazing grandfather and his friends. Plant crops, raise animals, and build relationships as you carry on your grandfather’s legacy.

Tip: Using bait can make fishing a bit easier and may even increase the rarity of fish you catch.

Trek into untamed regions, fight fierce foes, or construct your own city to house a host of allies in Terraria. Craft a fishing pole and start casting into bodies of liquid (yes, that includes honey and lava).

Tip: High quality rods, Golden insects, and Luck potions can increase your Fishing Power, making it easier to catch rare fish.

As a member of an android military force, explore the dystopian landscape as you join the ferocious battle to take back Earth from these other-worldly invaders.

Tip: While fishing is optional, it’s a great way to net more resources and complete secret side quests.
