Fossil finders

There are Fossil Parks to explore all around the world. Before you enter a Fossil Park, visit the Garage and pick out a Bone Buggy – specialised vehicles that are perfect for exploring dig sites. There are different types of Bone Buggy, and each can be customised with new parts, like engines and tyres, and fitted with excavation equipment such as hammers and drills. You can even add Support Shots to give your statistics a boost in battle.

Adventure’s right around the bend when you hit the road in your Bone Buggy! You can also enlist the aid of Paleo Pals – helpful characters you’ll meet during the story who can join your expedition and lend support at dig spots or in combat. While driving around dig sites, use your Fossil Sonar to locate hidden fossils, then park up and get stuck in. The Fossil Sonar also marks any roaming rogue vivosaurs on your radar, making it easier to track them down for a battle!

Dig it

When you find a fossil, use your Bone Buggy’s tools to dig it up! It might be tempting to smash away the rock as fast as possible, but there’s a chance you’ll damage the fossil if you’re careless. Too much pressure will damage or destroy the specimen, so be attentive when you excavate.

Control hammers, drills and chisels with the Touch Screen, tapping and dragging over the rocks that you want to remove. Hammers are great for clearing out larger areas, while drills are the ideal tools for precision work and chipping away at the edges. If you’re dealing with a bigger fossil, you might need to X-ray the ground and then chisel away at it!

If you preserve the fossil well, you’ll recover it and bring the past to life in the form of a vivosaur. Be careful when you’re digging, as damaging a fossil could make the potential vivosaur weaker! You can also turn up valuable jewels which can be sold, allowing you to buy better upgrades for your Bone Buggy. Paleo Pals will happily recover fossils if you ask them to, too!

Enter battle

There are over 80 vivosaurs to look out for, from tall terrors that walk on two legs, strong and sturdy sorts that stay on all fours, and fearsome flyers that soar through the skies. For each vivosaur, there are four types of fossils to find, representing their heads, bodies, arms or legs. Dig up any of them and you can revive a complete vivosaur, but which move it can use depends on the type of fossil! Recover multiple fossils from different parts of the same vivosaur to unlock new combat abilities.

Run into rogue vivosaurs as you explore or enter tournaments at the Fossil Stadium to jump into turn-based battles with up to three vivosaurs on each side of the grid! Every vivosaur has its own elemental class, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. The order of attack is determined by a speed check at the start of each round. When it’s your turn, use Support Shots to boost your vivosaur, then choose your attack and which opponent you want to target.

If you’re smart you can strike multiple enemies at once, so think strategically and work out the best way to win! Of course, you can partner up with your Paleo Pals in battle too – and if you think your team can handle things on their own, you can set the battles to play out automatically at any time.

Friends and foes

Prove yourself in local and online multiplayer! Up to six players can battle locally, fighting three-on-three – if you don’t have enough players, Paleo Pals that are controlled by the computer will fill the rest of the slots. You can also go toe-to-toe with players online in one-on-one Ranked Battles, or up to three players can team up locally to explore Fossil Parks together. Plus, if you activate StreetPass and encounter other players of Fossil Fighters Frontier, your vivosaurs will automatically do battle and increase their statistics while you’re not playing.

AR Cards

You can take advantage of the Augmented Reality capabilities of Nintendo 3DS family systems by scanning special Fossil Fighters Frontier AR Cards*. When activated using your Nintendo 3DS family system’s outer cameras, you can unlock extra content in your game, such as special vivosaurs and Bone Buggies!
