Namco Bandai Games brings the treasured “Tales of” series of RPGs to Nintendo 3DS, with the release of Tales of the Abyss for the first time in Europe! This iconic title has been given the unusual genre name of not just "RPG", but “RPG of Discovering the Meaning of Life”, the reason for which will become clear only by stepping into this vivid, fantastical world...

Until recent history, only six Fonons were known to exist: Shadow, Earth, Wind, Water, Fire and Light. When a seventh - Sound - was discovered, chaos ensued. Using this Seventh Fonon, it became possible to read the future, and with this power, the story of events yet to come was laid down in the Score: a prophecy recorded on Fonstones scattered all over the world. On the planet of Auldrant, the two kingdoms of Kimlasca-Lanvaldear and Makluth have been at opposition for many years, fighting over Fonstone fragments and attempting to become the first to discover the story of their own future.

Luke fon Fabre is the only heir of a rich, aristocratic line from Kimlasca; seven years ago, he was abducted by the Makluth and when he was returned, the shock of the event had robbed him of all memories prior to his kidnapping. Since then Luke has been confined to the family estate, ignorant of the world outside - but Luke’s life of solitude is about to change. He is about to go beyond the walls, to a place where friends and enemies lay in wait. This isolated, spoiled young man will have to make choices about who to trust and who to be - and his choices will determine whether the world is saved, or utterly destroyed.

Redesigned to make use of the dual screens of Nintendo 3DS, and now with stunning stereoscopic 3D graphics, Tales of the Abyss is an entirely new experience on a handheld console.

In classic RPG style, you’ll guide a party of adventurers as they explore a rich complex setting, all while an engrossing the story unfolds. When conflict leads to skirmish in the game, the Flex Range Linear Motion Battle System means combat unfolds in real-time, with free movement – allowing battles to be fast-paced, intuitive and dynamic. Each battle is graded, and you can earn extra points by using strategies or special moves called ‘Artes’, which can be accessed instantly via shortcuts on the Touch Screen.

On top of the main story, this expansive game has tons of additional features to enjoy, including a variety of side quests, an in-depth cooking system which can help you to recover points and stat boosts, the opportunity to get bonus items, and even ‘New game plus’ where you can replay the entire game anew and use your battle grades from the first playthrough to uncover even more secrets.

With elegant, anime-style characters designed by manga artist Kōsuke Fujishima, Tales of the Abyss brings a new incarnation of a stylish, classic RPG to European shores on Nintendo 3DS.

  • Fast-paced, real-time battles, where Artes are activated via the Touch Screen
  • Vast game world to explore with tons of extras to discover, and the option to replay the story
  • Experience the depth of the world in full, strereoscopic 3D
  • Featuring character designs by Kōsuke Fujishima
