Okamiden

System: Nintendo DS Release date: 18/03/2011

Successor to the critically acclaimed Wii release Okami, Capcom's Okamiden on the Nintendo DS promises to draw you into the action with an elegant stroke of its Celestial Brush.

In a fitting reflection of the relationship shared with Amaterasu, the powerful sun god who embodied a wolf in Okami, the child deity Chibiterasu manifests in the form of a white wolf cub in Okamiden. Set a few months after the events of Okami, the young sun god is summoned to battle a sinister force that has drained the landscape of colour, leaving it withered and faded where once it was luminous with life.

Guide Chibiterasu on a journey steeped in Japanese folklore, featuring a cornucopia of spirits, heroes and insouciant gods. In this fun-filled action adventure our furry protagonist will collaborate with myriad brave allies, including some old friends from the world of Okami. Every new friend has a vital role to play in the lupine deity's destiny: each companion that the wolf puppy can 'Partner Up' with brings their own special ability to the team and working together means our heroes can overcome challenges they would never dream of besting alone. The wolf pup and friends' noble mission will see them exploring together, solving puzzles and battling wicked spirits to heal the land.

As well as friends who'll stick through thick or thin, the fledgling god also has the Celestial Brush: more than a simple writing instrument, it is a potent tool which can be used to call forth divine powers via the graceful practice of calligraphy. Invoking the power of the Celestial Brush freezes the world momentarily, bringing an air of quiet meditation perfect for the inscription of magical symbols; and the Touch Screen and stylus of the Nintendo DS are a natural analogy for a wolf hair brush and canvas. Movements of the stylus across the screen are deftly translated into brushstrokes - swift strokes will result in a thin, light line, whereas a slower motion will be depicted as a bolder, darker mark. Beautiful art may be its own reward, but correct formation of magical sigils with this hallowed apparatus allows you to etch platforms into existence, scribe out exquisite special attacks and finish enemies with a flourish. In the course of this legendary tale you'll learn a great number of new brush techniques such as Bloom and Power Slash, special moves that Chibiterasu can use in combat or harness to solve puzzles.

Designed to showcase the technical capabilities of the Nintendo DS, Okamiden brings Chibiterasu's adventures vividly to life, realised in the gentle watercolour style of Japanese scroll paintings. The story is a classic fable based on mythological motifs which resonate throughout the ages. Where themes of responsibility, overcoming adversity, kinship and mutual respect combine to create a spiritual tale delivered direct to the heart through fun and engaging gameplay.

Join Chibiterasu and friends in this action adventure full of artistic flair and restore the land to its former captivating glory in Okamiden. Only on the Nintendo DS.
