To transfer software or data, you will need:

• A wireless broadband internet connection

The battery in each system must be sufficiently charged or plugged in with the AC adapter.

Note: the SD card of Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL cannot be inserted into the microSD card slot of the New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL. The data of the SD card must be transferred to the microSD card.

The transfer can be done via local wireless transfer or copying the data via a PC manually. Note: if you use a PC to copy the data, you need an SD card slot and microSD card slot in your PC or a card reader/writer that takes SD card and microSD cards and a cross-head screwdriver to remove the battery cover.
