How to Set Up a Local or Online Multiplayer Game (Super Mario Bros. Wonder)
Follow these steps to play locally or online with friends in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
In local play, you can play with up to 4 players on one system. For online play, you can connect with live player shadows from all over the world who are exploring the same areas as you, or create a room for you and your friends to play together.
Complete these steps

- While on the world map or in a course, press the + Button to open the Main Menu.
- Select Player Options at the bottom left. The icon resembles a Joy-Con.
- Select the number of players, from one to four.
- While in a course, the number of players can only be increased, not decreased.
- Choose the controller type for each player.
- For players using a single Joy-Con, hold the controller horizontally and press the SL Button and SR button on top.
- For players using both Joy-Con controllers, hold them vertically and press the L Button and R button on top.
- For players using the Pro Controller, press the L Button and R button on top.
- Once the controllers are set up, have player 1 press the A Button.
- Have each player select a character to use, or pick random. The same character cannot be used by multiple players.
- While on the world map, you can change characters by opening the Main Menu and selecting Characters.
- After all players have selected a character, select OK.
Important: A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to use the game's online features.
- While on the world map, press the + Button to open the Main Menu.
- Select Play Online at the bottom right. The icon resembles a wireless signal.
- Select Connect.
- Once the connection is successful, select OK.
- While playing on the world map or in a course, you'll encounter live player shadows and standees left by other players.

- While on the world map, press the + Button to open the Main Menu.
- Select Play Online at the bottom right. The icon resembles a wireless signal.
- Select Online Play Guide on the right. The icon resembles a question mark block.
Important
- A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to use the game's online features.
- Up to two players can join a room from one Nintendo Switch console, and up to 12 players can join a single room.
Create a room
- While on the world map, press the + Button to open the Main Menu.
- Select Play Online at the bottom right. The icon resembles a wireless signal.
- Press the X Button to play with friends.
- Select Create a Room.
- You can press the X Button to set an optional four digit password to limit entry to the room.
- Select OK to create the friend room.
- After players have joined the room, you can play courses together in groups of up to four players.
Join a room
- While on the world map, press the + Button to open the Main Menu.
- Select Play Online at the bottom right. The icon resembles a wireless signal.
- Press the X Button to play with friends.
- Select Find Room.
- Select your friend's room from the list of available rooms. If a password was required, enter it to join the room.
- After joining the room, you can play courses together in groups of up to four players.
