How to Start a Multiplayer Game (Luigi’s Mansion 3)
In this article, you'll learn how to set up a multiplayer game in Luigi’s Mansion 3.
Important:
A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to use the game's online features.
Luigi's Mansion 3 features three different multiplayer modes to enjoy with other players.
- Story Mode (Co-Op):
Have a friend play as Gooigi for 2-player co-op in story mode.
This option opens after you obtain Gooigi from Professor E. Gadd in story mode (after about 1 hour of gameplay).
- Scarescraper:
Up to 8 players can work together to ascend the Scarescaper online or via local wireless. This game mode supports 1-2 players per console, up to 8 players (4 consoles) total.

- ScreamPark:
Team up with other players to compete in mini-game battles! This game mode supports up to 8 players on the same console.

- After receiving Gooigi from Professor E. Gadd, press the + Button at any point in story mode to bring up the game's menu.
- Select Co-op, then select Co-op again.
- Choose the controller type for each player (each player can use a single Joy-Con, a pair of Joy-Con controllers, or a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller).
- For players using a single Joy-Con, hold the controller horizontally and press the SL and SR Buttons.
- For players using both Joy-Con controllers, hold them vertically and press the L and R Buttons.
- For players using the Pro Controller, press the L and R Buttons.
- Once the controllers are set for each player, have Player 1 press the button indicated on the screen to return to the menu.
- Have Player 1 back out of the menu (usually using the – Button or B Button).
- Have Player 2 press any button to appear as Gooigi. Luigi and Gooigi can now work together to explore the levels.
- To return to solo mode, have Player 1 return to the in-game menu at any point, select "Solo", then reset the controller as desired.
- On each console, launch the game and select Scarescraper from the main menu.
- Select a game file and save data, then select Load twice.

- Highlight Local Play and toggle between Solo (1 player on the console) and Co-op (2 players on the console).
- Select Confirm.
- Choose the controller type for each player (each player can use a single Joy-Con, a pair of Joy-Con controllers, or a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller).
- For players using a single Joy-Con, hold the controller horizontally and press the SL and SR Buttons.
- For players using both Joy-Con controllers, hold them vertically and press the L and R Buttons.
- For players using the Pro Controller, press the L and R Buttons.
- Once the controllers are set for each player, press the button indicated on the screen.
- Have one player (Player 1) select Create Room and choose the number of floors to play.
- Have the other players select Refresh on their screen, then select Player 1's room when it appears.
- When all players have joined the room, have Player 1 select Ready, then Start to begin the game.
- Highlight Online Play and toggle between Solo (1 Player on the console) and Co-Op (2 players on the console).
- Select Confirm.
- Choose the controller type for each player (each player can use a single Joy-Con, a pair of Joy-Con controllers, or a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller).
- For players using a single Joy-Con, hold the controller horizontally and press the SL and SR Buttons.

Do you want to play online with friends or with anyone?
- Highlight With Friends then select Confirm.
- Have one player (Player 1) select Create Room and choose the number of floors to play.
- Have the other players select Refresh on their screen, then select Player 1's room when it appears.
- When all players have joined the room, have Player 1 select Ready, then Start to begin the game.
- Highlight With Anyone then select Confirm.
- Choose between New Game or Join Game In Progress, then select Confirm.
- Choose the number of floors you want to play, then select Confirm.
- If starting a new game, select Ready to begin when you're happy with the number of players that have joined your game.
- If joining a game, the console will search for another game in progress. You will join the game automatically when the party reaches its next floor.
- Launch the game and select ScreamPark from the main menu.
- Choose the number of players (2 to 8).
- If playing with five or more players, each player must use horizontal Joy-Con controllers or Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers.
- Choose the controller type for each player (each player can use a single Joy-Con, a pair of Joy-Con controllers, or a Pro Controller).
- For players using a single Joy-Con, hold the controller horizontally and press the SL and SR Buttons.
- For players using both Joy-Con controllers, hold them vertically and press the L and R Buttons.
- For players using the Pro Controller, press the L and R Buttons.
- Once the controllers are set for each player, have Player 1 press the button indicated on the screen.
- Have each player select a team, then press the button for Ready.
- Review the controls on the screen, then have Player 1 select Start to begin!
