Nintendo 64 Controller Buttons Do Not Respond Correctly
The information in this article can help you when:
- The buttons or +Control Pad on the Nintendo 64 Controller do not respond or respond incorrectly on a Nintendo Switch console.
- There is input lag with the Nintendo 64 Controller.

- The Nintendo 64 Controller is designed to work with the Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online: Mature classic game libraries. Although it's possible that this controller can be used to navigate Nintendo Switch menus and even play other games, we cannot ensure that all in-game options and features are supported.
Which console or system are you using?

- Verify that you are using the Nintendo 64 Controller, model HAC-043. The model number can be found on the back of the controller.
- If a different accessory is being used, replacing it with the correct controller may resolve the problem.
- Verify that you are using the Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online software.
- If you are using two Nintendo 64 Controllers, only player one can navigate the game selection menu.
- Ensure that you have downloaded and installed any available software updates for Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online prior to starting a game from that library.
- If the issue persists, try the following:
- Ensure that your console has the latest system version.
If the console is already up to date, restart it by holding down the POWER Button for three seconds, then selecting Power Options and Restart.
- Delete the pairing information for any wireless controllers, then pair the Nintendo 64 Controller to the console.
- Reset the Nintendo 64 Controller.
Press the SYNC Button once on the controller, then press any other button on the controller to power it on again.
- Ensure that the battery charge is not depleted on the Nintendo 64 Controller.
The approximate battery charge will be displayed by going to the HOME Menu and then selecting Controllers.
- Check for wireless interference.
Ensure that the console is not placed behind a TV, under a metal object, or within about a metre of other wireless devices, such as wireless speakers, cordless phones, etc.
