Play Modes and Connecting

Nintendo Switch has 3 play modes.

*Some play modes are not supported by certain console/game combinations.

About Nintendo Switch Lite

Games that support Handheld Mode can be played on Nintendo Switch Lite console.

However, some elements or play styles of certain Handheld Mode-compatible games may not be available.

Play games on a TV screen.
Tabletop Mode
Set the console down on a surface to play.
Handheld Mode
Play games while holding your console.

How to play in TV Mode (Connecting everything up)

Open the cover on the rear of the Nintendo Switch dock.

Insert the AC adapter into the top port, insert the HDMI cable into the centre port, then close the cover.

Connect the AC adapter directly to a mains socket.

*TV Mode consumes a significant amount of power. You should connect your console directly to a wall socket, rather than via an extension cord or power strip.

*AC adapter and mains socket configurations may vary by country.

Connect the HDMI cable directly to your television.

Turn on your television and change the source to the HDMI input where you connected the HDMI cable.

*AC adapter and mains socket configurations may vary by country.

Press the POWER Button on your console, then press the A Button to open the HOME Menu.

Detach the left and right Joy-Con controllers from the console.

*If you put your console in the dock with the Joy-Con controllers still attached, you will no longer be able to use the controllers.

*If playing with a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, there's no need to detach anything from the console.

Align your console with the centre of the dock and gently push the console down to insert it. When the console is fully inserted, the screen will go black.

How to play in TV Mode (Connecting everything up)

Tabletop Mode lets you use the console as a standalone screen when you don't have a television to hand. You can even share one of your Joy-Con controllers with a friend to play together.
