Welcome to Rogueport! Mario visits this notorious town of ruffians to help Princess Peach on a treasure hunt. But Peach is nowhere to be seen! After learning about the legend of the Crystal Stars, Mario sets out to find them and hopefully track down the princess too…
Of course, Mario isn't the only one hoping to find the Crystal Stars – and it’s not just Bowser who’s looking to cause trouble this time! Can our hero unearth these ancient artifacts, open the Thousand-Year Door buried deep beneath the town and maybe even save the world?

A hero who needs no introduction! Armed with a pair of sturdy stomping boots and his trusty Hammer, he’s ready to hunt for the Crystal Stars and find Peach along the way.
Princess Peach
Peach has been kidnapped! But that doesn’t mean she’s helpless – with the help of a strange sentient computer, she works on a plan to help with Mario’s quest from afar.
Sir Grodus and the X-Nauts
A gang of villains intent on finding the Crystal Stars. They’ve not only kidnapped Princess Peach, but also want to use the treasure hidden behind the Thousand-Year Door to take over the world!
Goombella
This peppy archaeology student has a wealth of knowledge about Rogueport and its inhabitants. She’s hunting for the Crystal Stars too, and teams up with Mario shortly after he arrives in town.
Koops
As clumsy as he is shy, Koops joins Mario in the hopes of discovering his father’s fate at the hands of a scary dragon. His shell keeps him safe, but it can do some real damage to anyone getting hit by it!
Madame Flurrie
Once a famous actress, Flurrie has since retired from the spotlight to a small house in Boggly Woods. She can control wind and uses great gusts to blow away obstacles and enemies alike.
Yoshi
He may be small, but this Yoshi’s as tough as they come and can use a flutter jump to carry Mario over short gaps, as well as helping him get around faster.
Vivian
One of the mysterious Three Shadows, a group of sisters working with the X-Nauts to find the Crystal Stars. However, an act of kindness leads her to question where her allegiances lie…
Admiral Bobbery
A once proud sailor, now marooned on dry land due to his tragic past. With Mario’s help, he sets out on the sea once more and uses his explosive personality to destroy anything in his way.

To find the Crystal Stars, you’ll have to venture beyond the walls of Rogueport and explore the world. Along the way, all kind of discoveries are waiting for you: a huge dragon hiding in a creepy castle, a cursed town cloaked in perpetual twilight, daring detective work aboard a moving train and much more!
Throughout the adventure, you'll see Mario and his new-found friends get up to all kinds of hilarious hijinx. Whether it's fighting fun in the glamourous Glitz Pit, shipwreck shenanigans on an isolated island or even a madcap mission to the moon, there's always something comical around the corner!

Spotted any enemies on your travels? Confront them in turn-based combat, on a cardboard stage in front of an excitable audience. The better you do, the more the crowd will cheer you on!

If you emerge victorious, you’ll earn valuable Star Points. Once you collect 100 of these, Mario will level up and grow stronger depending on which stat you choose to increase!
Take the fight to your opponents, attacking and defending in turn! The first to reduce the other side’s health to zero wins.
By equipping Badges you find or buy during your adventure, you can add new moves to Mario’s repertoire that can take down even the toughest opposition.
In combat, it’s all about teamwork! Partner attacks are just as vital as Mario’s and can help turn the tide in battle. You can swap between partners, but it’ll cost you a turn to do so.
Need a boost in battle? Use items you’ve collected on your travels to restore health, deal damage, and apply status effects that can help you or hinder others!
Perform your attacks with well-timed button presses to increase your power, or hit the button as you’re attacked to reduce damage.
Harness the power of the Crystal Stars to use Special moves! They can send shockwaves through your enemies, recover your team’s health, and much more.
