The decision has been made to discontinue the online multiplayer service for this title on December 29th 2016. From the creative mind of legendary designer Tomonobu Itagaki comes Devil's Third for Wii U, an over-the-top, third-person action shooter that combines modern military weaponry with ninja-style swordplay and melee combat. It has a unique vision for a deep and challenging online mode that blends clan-based action, resource management and strategy.

Take control of Ivan, a former mercenary let loose from his incarceration to take down a shadowy group he once belonged to. Ivan must use a colourful array of weaponry to shoot and attack his way through any foe standing in the way of his attempt at redemption. With fast-paced combat and finishing moves galore, a day in the life of Ivan is anything but ordinary…

In online multiplayer, do battle with other players in a number of game modes, from the traditional to the unique, in a grim future where chaos reigns supreme. As an ordinary citizen, join a clan and form allegiances with other factions, or go all-out as a mercenary and endlessly assault other player’s bases, opting for anarchy over clan diplomacy! Customise your base alongside other members of your clan, with successful battling resulting in rewards that can be used to improve your defences. With constant assaults from other clans, you’ll have to be on your toes to defend your territory.

While “Devil’s Third” for Wii U will be published by Nintendo in Europe, Valhalla Game Studios will release “Devil’s Third Online (tentative title)”, a standalone version of the game for PC. The Wii U version will feature a full multiplayer mode as well as an exciting single player story mode, while the PC version will offer a multiplayer experience tailored for the platform.

For more information on Devil’s Third Online (tentative title), please see Valhalla Game Studios' website.

Gameplay

Army of one

Leave restraint at the door as you shoot and attack your way through everyone and everything standing in your way! Kick down doors, command heavy machine guns and rocket launchers, then call in powerful air strikes, all in the name of justice. With fast-paced combat and spectacular finishing moves, Devil’s Third is anything but ordinary…

Master of arms

Blast, block and battle in a seamless blend of fluid third-person combat and intense first-person shooting. Master the nuances of both forms of combat to adapt to the task at hand, unleashing devastating combos at close quarters and taking out far-off enemies with heavy artillery.

Ivan unleashed

When you take on role of the Russian, you’ll be gripped by a feeling of invincibility. But as the battle heats up to volcanic temperatures, you’ll be in need of a little boost. Cue the potent Enbaku, charged by successfully dealing melee attacks or by making special use of weaponry. When unleashed, those tattoos positively glow, and your speed, strength and other abilities become greater than ever. For a short time, you’ll be near-unstoppable.

Spoils of war

Beyond the all-out destruction, there’s plenty of replay value: set your own offensive parameters by choosing specific weaponry for a run at Score Attack. Think you can attain a high score with just a Katana? Prove it. You’ll need sharp skills if you want to carve out a high spot in the global rankings.

Whether you’re in Story mode or Score Attack, search high and low to unearth over 50 War Trophies. Keep your eyes peeled for curios such as a saxophone, Matryoshka dolls, a miniature AC-130, and various issues of Global Military Review. Claiming them all will be harder than you might imagine…

Story & Characters

Once upon a time in Cuba…

At the heart of the single-player campaign is the tattooed bruiser Ivan, aka ‘The Ghost’. A former mercenary, he is let loose from his incarceration at Guantanamo Bay to right the wrongs of his past, and take down a shadowy group he once belonged to, the School of Democracy. With the world’s satellites and electrical weaponry wiped out, warfare is once again reduced to close combat between soldiers. Cue the Russian; cue the hurt…

A deadly line-up

Despite his one-man crusade, Ivan will feel the influence of aggressors and allies. The question is, who’s who?

Friends and foes

Ivan the Terrible

Ivan is a creative artist in the business of combat. He has the strength and agility of his country’s most famous classical dancers, and can conduct symphonies of noise with all the instruments in his destructive orchestra. From blade to bullet, machete to Minigun, he is an old master.

CI16_WiiU_DevilsThird_IvanTheTerrible.jpg

School of Democracy

Founded by Isaac Kumano, this radical organisation has been untouchable for years. When its practices tested even Ivan’s tolerance, he split from Kumano and surrendered to NATO. Kumano, and the remainder of the School of Democracy – Big Mouse, Grundla Saha, Jane Doe, C4 and Ludmilla Karenina – have been working with arrogant impunity ever since. But pride comes before a fall…

Admiral Charles Caraway

An admiral in the US Navy, and head of an unnamed intelligence agency, Charles Caraway releases Ivan from the detention centre at Guantanamo Bay in order to bring the School of Democracy to heel. Although no other intel is available, the admiral’s motives seem honourable – at least for now.

Major Stella Maynard

Maj Maynard is Ivan’s liaison officer, handling him for Adm Caraway – at least as much as is possible, given the Russian’s distaste for authority.

Multiplayer

Last man standing

Not only does Devil’s Third offer a huge slab of game styles, but you’ll be able to customise several elements to your taste, too. Drill mode gives you ten ways to decimate your foes. As well as traditional offerings like deathmatch, domination and melee-only modes, there’s plenty more to discover.

Go further into multiplayer by forming your own clan, building a fortress and fight rival clans online! Find out more about multiplayer clans and Siege mode.

Carnival

Pick up fruit and lob as much as you can into the food mixer on the map! Different fruits have different points values, so some fruits are bound to be hotly contested.

CI16_WiiU_DevilsThird_Screens_Carnival.jpg

Chickens

Capture and control chickens! More chickens, more points. Why not steal chickens from adversaries?!

CI16_WiiU_DevilsThird_Screens_Chickens.jpg

Transporter

Swipe the enemy’s suitcase, and get the top-secret docs within back to base. Whoever carries the suitcase has reduced movement, though, so play the defensive game as a team!

Gladiator

Lots of enemies, only one weapon – the sooner you find it, the sooner you can gain the advantage. No points for politeness here…

CI16_WiiU_DevilsThird_Screens_Gladiator.jpg

Tooled up

Before you charge the battlefield, though, you’ve got work to do: create a character, customising his or her face, voice, hair and more, then choose your outfit and camouflage, from the intimidating hockey mask to the slightly less frightening cardboard box.

CI16_WiiU_DevilsThird_Screens_TooledUp.jpg

Weaponry comes next, and there are four divisions: primary and secondary firearms, melee weapons and projectiles. From knives to rocket launchers, it’s all here, and you can store several loadouts to switch between. Sensible soldiers will trot down to Hattie’s to try new armaments, and get in some target practice, too: shoot silhouette cut-outs, test your long-range sights on the range, and take on virtual enemies in a holography suite.

You can also buy munitions to ensure you’re fully-stocked for the impending battle. An empty clip in the heat of a fire fight usually only ever ends one way...

Ready to rock

Once you’re suitably armed, it’s time to lock ‘n’ load in the aforementioned Drill mode, where up to 16 players can compete in online skirmishes, solo or in teams. Tailor the battlefield and relevant rules to your liking, then engage the enemy to establish military supremacy! You’ll earn experience points from wins, which increase your overall level, and you’ll need to reach a certain level to complete basic training and be allowed to take part in Siege Matches.

Please note: some multiplayer game modes and features will only become available following the launch of the game.

Clans & Siege mode

War ensemble

Beyond the multiplayer mayhem of Drill mode is the world of clans, set in a North America splintered by war and controlled by different factions. The members of your clan are your protectors, your team mates, your family, and you’ll live and fight alongside them throughout your time online as you fight rival clans for territorial supremacy. You’ll be able to pick which clan to side with by checking things like their size, requirements for new recruits, and how much Dollen you’ll receive for being a member.

Of course, anyone who fancies themselves a supreme commander should immediately opt to form their own clan. Take up the mantle of General, choosing things like clan name, emblem, member pay, who to make captain, and even when to dismiss particular members. You can also forge military alliances and no-war pacts with other clans, further bolstering your dominance!

CI16_WiiU_DevilsThird_Screens_Map.jpg

Tower defence

Every good general needs a fortress. This is the nerve centre of all your operations, where your command post is situated, and you’ll need to manage the entire thing to maximise the war effort. From the world map, you can choose where to construct, repair and demolish different buildings, then choose gear, like weapons, surveillance equipment, and radar jammers. As the war marches on, you’ll get to expand your fortress to cover up to three areas, across new zones, and each with a command post. Increase stats like health and strength as part of your clan’s campaign for world domination!

CI16_WiiU_DevilsThird_Screens_BuildingBase.jpg

Theatre of war

At some point, you’ll need to make the decision to engage the enemy. With the singular goal of destroying your opponent’s command posts within six minutes – or holding the fort until time runs out – up to 16 players can max out the battlefield, with eight on each side. If you’re more of a lone wolf, you can even take part as an independent mercenary, assigned at random to either the attacking or defending team!

CI16_WiiU_DevilsThird_Screens_TheatreOfWar.jpg

Heavy metal

As well as small-arms fire fights, you can use more covert tactics: fill your X-Gear gauge to utilise heavier weaponry – aka X-Gear – such as grenade launchers and Gatling guns. When hand-to-hand combat becomes ineffective, you can detonate bombs to dish out severe damage to enemy compounds. For the ultimate hit, though, you’ll want to invest in special arms: locate a radio, then call in strike support from bombers, helicopters, and more to blast your rivals firmly back to the stone age, leaving only rubble where their carefully-crafted fortress once stood.

Of course, for every measure, there is a suitable and effective countermeasure. Bombs can be disarmed, and special arms can be delayed by routing radio ops, or destroyed entirely with counter-air weapons.

Lines of communication

Keeping an eye on your progress is crucial, and this is where the Federal Disaster Response Agency (FDRA) menu comes in: check out your player card to see your profile and battle stats, players you meet online, as well as notifications, messages and propaganda. Access the chatroom to communicate with clan members – maybe give orders, feed intel or discuss the latest diplomatic and territorial developments, and all via the Wii U GamePad touch screen or a compatible USB keyboard (sold separately).

Please note: some multiplayer game modes and features will only become available following the launch of the game.
