How to Manage Phone Number Registration for a Nintendo Account
Steps for registering, reviewing, changing, or removing a phone number for your Nintendo Account.
Information
Registering a phone number with your Nintendo Account adds an additional layer of security that can help prevent unauthorized access to the account. In various scenarios, such as when you have forgotten your password, you may be prompted to send a text message to your phone to verify your identity. By entering the verification code, your identity will be verified.

Important: Phone numbers cannot be registered to Nintendo Accounts for children (aged 15 or less).
- Visit accounts.nintendo.com and sign in to your Nintendo Account.
- Select Sign-In and Security Settings.
- Select Phone Number. If you are accessing the Nintendo Account website using a computer, scroll down to the "Phone Number" section and select Edit.
- "Phone Number" section does not appear
If this Nintendo Account is a Nintendo Account for a child under 16, or for a supervised account for someone 16 to 17 that does not have a registered email address, the option to register a phone number will not appear.

- Select Phone Number Management.
- You may be prompted to confirm your identity by re-entering your password, re-authenticating with your passkey, and/or by verifying your email address.
- Password entry
If prompted to enter your password, enter it then select OK.
- Passkey re-authentication
If you have enabled passkey authentication, you can confirm your identity by signing in using your passkey.
- Email address verification
If prompted to verify your email address, select Submit to have an email with a verification code sent to the email address associated with your Nintendo Account. Locate the code in your email and enter it in the "Verification code" box, then select Submit.
- If you do not receive the email, please follow our steps for Did Not Receive a Nintendo Account Identity Verification Email.
- Password entry
- If you have set up 2-step verification, you may be prompted to enter an additional code. Launch the Google Authenticator app on your smart device, enter the code it displays, and select Verify.
- No access to Google Authenticator
If you do not currently have access to the app, select Use another method to verify your identity and use one of the backup codes you received and saved in a safe place when setting up the 2-step verification.
- No access to backup codes
If you do not currently have access to your backup codes, select Use another method to verify your identity on the "Enter backup code" screen. An email with a verification code will be sent to the email address associated with your Nintendo Account. Locate the code in your email and enter it in the "Verification code" box, then select Verify.
- If you do not receive the email, please follow our steps for Did Not Receive a Nintendo Account Identity Verification Email.
- No access to Google Authenticator
- Use the country dropdown to select the country for your phone number.
- My country does not appear in the list
If your phone number is from a country that does not appear in this list, you will not be able to register that phone number to your account. Please use a different phone number.
- My country does not appear in the list
- Enter your phone number and select Submit. A text message will be sent to the number you entered with a 6-digit verification code—it should arrive within a few minutes, and will expire in 10 minutes.
- Message: The phone number you entered cannot be registered.
This message indicates that the number you have entered cannot be registered to your Nintendo Account. Check the following:
- The phone number you entered may have been incorrect. Try registering your phone number again, making sure you are entering the number without the country code and without any spaces or dashes.
- Make sure you are using a phone number that can receive text messages. Landline phones and other phone numbers that cannot receive text messages cannot be registered to your Nintendo Account.
- Verification text message does not arrive
If the text message with the verification code does not arrive within a few minutes, please check the following:
- The phone number you entered may have been incorrect. Try registering your phone number again, making sure you are entering the number without the country code and without any spaces or dashes.
- Make sure you are using a phone number that can receive text messages. Landline phones and other phone numbers that cannot receive text messages cannot be registered to your Nintendo Account.
- Check your phone settings related to text messages to make sure you are able to receive text messages.
- Message: The phone number you entered cannot be registered.
- Locate the code in your text message and enter it in the "Verification code" box, then select Submit.
- The message "Your phone number has been registered" will appear—select OK. Your phone number is now registered to your account.
- If you want to review the phone number registered to your Nintendo Account, visit accounts.nintendo.com and sign in to your Nintendo Account.
- Select Sign-In and Security Settings.
- Select Phone Number.
- If you are accessing the Nintendo Account website using a computer, scroll down to the "Phone Number" section and select Edit.
- Your currently registered phone number will appear.
- Visit accounts.nintendo.com and sign in to your Nintendo Account.

- Select Change Phone Number.
