How to Update Mario Golf: Super Rush
In this article, you'll learn how to update Mario Golf: Super Rush on Nintendo Switch.
Note
- This update must be applied in order to use the game’s online features.
- Save data will still be available for use after downloading the update.
- If the console is connected to the internet, the update will download and install automatically.
- All players must be using the same version of the software to play together. Please make sure you have the same software version as the person or people you are playing with.
- A Nintendo Switch Online membership (paid service) is required, in order to use online connectivity features.
On 24 November 2021 a new software update for Mario Golf: Super Rush became available for download. Please take a moment to download and install this update while your Nintendo Switch console is connected to the internet.
Complete these steps
- Connect the Nintendo Switch console to the internet.
- Return to the HOME Menu and launch the game.
- The update will be downloaded and installed automatically.
- Once the update is installed, the newest version number will be displayed on the title screen.

- Added Playable Character, “Wiggler”
- Wiggler has been added as a playable character to choose from in Matches. He is a power-type character that uses his long body to send the ball farther.
- When he uses a Special Shot or is attacked, he will become enraged and power up for a certain amount of time:
- Ball flight distance increases by 10%.
- In "Speed Golf", in addition to ball flight distance, running speed and Special Dash speed will also be enhanced by 25%. In addition, the Special Dash will change from a straight move to a special move that hits the ground and sends out a shockwave.
- His Special Shot has the effect of blowing away balls from its point of landing, as well as the surrounding area, due to the impact of the berries that are launched with it.
- Added Playable Character, “Shy Guy”
- Shy Guy has been added as a playable character to choose from in Matches. He is a well-balanced, all-around character that is easy to use in any situation.
- His Special Dash uses the help of the Fly Guys to keep him flying until his gauge runs out, or a button is pressed. Use it at the right time to get an advantage over your opponents.
- His Special Shot has the effect of blowing away balls around its point of impact.
- Added Golf Course, “Shelltop Sanctuary”
- Added the full course “Shelltop Sanctuary”, made entirely of short holes.
- Shelltop Sanctuary, where Cheep Cheeps fly to and fro, is a short course with all of its 18 holes being Par 3.
- Two difficulty levels can be selected: “Amateur”, and “Pro”. Switching between them will greatly change the location of the green.
- Added Golf Course, “All-Star Summit”
- Added the full course “All-Star Summit”, which uses illustrations of Mario and others as a motif.
- This course features familiar characters, and the design of the green and the bunkers is different from other courses, so you can enjoy employing a different kind of strategy.
- The brick blocks strewn throughout the course can be broken by hitting them with a shot or special dash. Break them to acquire coins that refill your Energy.
- Get on top of the clouds found on the course to travel to opposite banks, or acquire Star Coins to fully charge your Energy.
- Added New Mode, “Target Golf”
- A new mode that allows you to play with just tee shots, without needing to know the detailed rules of golf.
- Players take turns shooting a total of five balls at a circular target, competing for the highest score based on points awarded according to the position they hit. The closer the ball is to the center of the target, the higher the score will be. If another player scores in an area first, however, the area will not be scored until the board resets. During play, ball types can change, and high-scoring targets appear that offer a chance for reversal.
- Can be played with Motion Controls.
- In the Play Golf menu, up to four players can play against each other with a single Joy-Con on a single Nintendo Switch console. You can also play with up to four players in Local Play and Online Play.
- Target Golf has also been added to the Solo Challenge menu. The challenge is to see how many points you can score before you miss three times, while the ball type and wind direction changes.
- Added New Mode, “One-On, One-Putt”
- The mode One-On, One-Putt has been added to Solo Challenge. In this mode, you must hit the green on the first swing and then putt into the cup on the second swing. The first shot must be on the green and the second shot must be in the cup.
- You can play this mode on New Donk City and Shelltop Sanctuary, which consist of short courses only, in Amateur and Pro configurations, respectively. In Shelltop Sanctuary, there is a Special difficulty level that requires you to use a special club for each hole.
- Game Balance Adjustments
- Changed the amount of Energy Gauge recovered when obtaining coins from 1% to 4%.
- Adjusted the number of coins that drop around you when you are attacked.
- When attacking another player with Special Dash, the coins dropped by the opponent will now be automatically collected.
- Stamina consumption when dashing with the B Button has been reduced.
- When Stamina has completely depleted and the B Button is being held down, after a fixed amount of time, Stamina will recover and the player can start dashing again, even if the B Button is continuously held down.
- CPUs now aim more to collect the Coins and Hearts on the course than before.
- CPUs will now aim Special Shots and Special Dashes at other players more than before.
- General
- Medals are now displayed on the Main Menu, which allow you to check your completion of challenges and achievements.
- A guide explaining how to play will now display every time at the start of using Motion Controls.
- Spin will no longer be added after Pin Shots, and Flag Shots.
- Adjusted the positioning of some of the garbage cans and benches in New Donk City.
- Fixed an issue where Wario's Special Dash would sometimes hit an invisible wall above other players while going airborne.
- Fixed additional issues to improve playability and game balance.
Ver. 3.0.0 (Released 24 September 2021)
- “Koopa Troopa” added to Playable Characters
- Koopa Troopa has been added as a playable character to choose from in Matches. He has very high Spin and Speed stats.
- His Special Dash has functions not seen in those of other characters.
- During the Special Dash, you can use the L stick to freely change the direction of movement. You can also use the A Button to jump.
- During the Special Dash, you can also move across the surface of the water, but your Stamina consumption will increase.
- As long as Stamina remains, you can enter your shell, and continue Special Dashing
- Pressing the L Button during a Special Dash will let you interrupt your Special Dash at any time.
- If your Special Dash hits other players, you will accelerate even more.
- This Special Shot has a new ability to bounce on the ground, and the number of times it bounces depends on the distance. While bouncing, it has the ability to blow other balls away.
- “Ninji” added to Playable Characters
- Ninji has been added as a playable character to choose from in Matches. He has the highest Speed stat of all characters.
- During his Special Dash, you can glide with your cloak. The first time you land from a glide, you can bounce ahead, even on the surface of the water.
- His Special Shot, like Koopa Troopa's, has a new ability to bounce on the ground, with the number of bounces depending on the distance traveled. While bouncing, it has the ability to blow away other balls.
- “Blustery Basin” added to Playable Courses
- Blustery Basin, a snow-themed course, has been added as a playable golf course.
- In addition to Ty-foos and Snow Pokeys, a new stage obstacle, “Cooligans”, have also been added.
- When the climate shift "Blizzards" occur, the wind will be stronger than usual and the ball won’t travel as easily. Take note of the placement of bunkers and icy ponds.
- “Spiky Palms” added to Playable Courses
- Spiky Palms, a desert-themed course at dusk, has been added as a playable golf course.
- In addition to Pokeys, and tornadoes, a new stage obstacle, “Spike”, has also been added.
- When the climate shift "rain" occurs, shot travel can decrease, and the run may suffer as well. The trick is to hit the ball a little harder than usual.
- Addition of “CPU Skill”
- The CPU Skill can now be selected from “Amateur”, “Pro”, and “Champ”.
- Adjustments to Ranked Matches
- Starting with the October 2021 Ranked Match, the rules for "Standard Golf" have been changed from "Special Shots On" to "Special Shots Off".
- Courses will now change every 30 minutes, as opposed to every 60 minutes.
- If you forfeit all three holes, the points you earn, including the participation bonus, will be zero.
- General Changes
- In Online Play, for the options “Standard Golf” and “All at Once”, if a player fails to hole-in within one minute after all other players have holed-in, they are treated as if they’ve given up—as is the case in Speed Golf.
- Fixed a bug in Golf Adventure's XC Standard Round that appeared to allow players to take a route other than crossing to the other side with a tornado when "Restart from First Hole" was selected.
- Fixed a bug in New Donk City’s Amateur placement on Hole 13, where if a player had gotten a hole-in-one after hitting the parasol, one stroke would be added to their score.
- Adjusted some collision detection for buildings and other objects placed in New Donk City.
- Adjusted CPU behavior for New Donk City.
- Fixed a bug where animation and voice weren’t matching-up during the ranking display for Ranked Matches.
- Fixed a bug where Daisy’s voice and animations weren’t matching up when she hit a bogey.
- Made several other fixes, and adjustments to game balance to improve enjoyment and playability.
Ver. 2.0.0 (Released 6 August 2021)
- Addition of Ranked Match
- We have added "Ranked Match" as an online play option.
- The goal is to improve your global ranking from "C-" to "S+" based on the number of monthly match points you accumulate from the results of your matches.
- In Ranked Matches, you will be automatically matched with opponents as close as possible in distance and rank.
- If there are only a few opponents available, you will be matched up even if there is some rank difference, but there is a handicap where higher ranked players will be behind you on the tee. If you can beat a higher ranked player, a bonus will be added to your monthly match points.
- Your monthly match points, rank, and global ranking will be reset every month, but you will still be able to review your past records.
- The game is divided into four categories: "Button Controls: Standard Golf", "Button Controls: Speed Golf", "Motion Controls: Standard Golf", and "Motion Controls: Speed Golf”.
- Achieve a rank of "A-" or higher each month, you will be able to use a character with a special appearance as a bonus.
- Achieve a rank of "A-" or higher in any one of the categories during August 2021, and you will be able to use "Red Yoshi,” “Blue Yoshi” and “Yellow Yoshi” as a bonus, effective immediately.
- Addition of "Toadette" as a playable character
- Toadette has been added as a playable character that can be used in matches.
- While she has the highest control rating of all the characters, she also has the lowest power. She is recommended for those who want to hit the ball exactly where they want it to go, one shot at a time.
- Golf Course "New Donk City" Added
- "New Donk City" from "Super Mario Odyssey" has been added as a playable golf course.
- This is a short course with 18 holes, all of which are rated Par 3, but it offers the possibility of unique strategies such as bouncing the ball off the walls of buildings.
- There are two difficulty levels to choose from, "Amateur" and "Pro", making the tees and greens of all 18 holes completely different.
- Adjusted Motion Controls
- It is now easier to generate power when swinging with a full swing in mind.
- Approach shots aiming at the cup position are now less likely to go wide.
- The angle of the club is now reflected on the screen when you get into a position to hit the ball.
- Additions to the "How to Play" section
- Added explanations of how to play, and tips for Motion Controls in the "Golf Guide".
- General Changes
- “Return to Character Select" and "Return to Course Select" have been added to the Pause Menu exit options.
- Character points required to obtain the next set of clubs are now displayed in Character Select.
- Course Select now displays the number of holes you need to play before you can play the next course.
- The number of holes played before the next course can be played is now displayed in Course Select.
- However, during online play, you may not be able to select it until you return to the main menu, even if you meet the conditions.
- The default number of players (including COM) has been changed to two when playing with the "Stroke Play " and "Take Turns" rules in the Standard Golf menu of “Play Golf”.
- Adjusted the search procedure for "Find a Room" in the online room menu of “Play Golf”.
- In online play, even if a network error occurs in another player’s room, the game will now continue after the player is replaced with a COM player. The room will be disbanded if the hosting console has a network error, because the hosting console manages the game settings.
- In Ranked Matches, if the hosting console has a communication error, it will be replaced by the COM and the game will continue.
- A warning and countdown will be displayed 30 seconds before the end of the game.
- Special Shots now pierce through tree foliage.
- When playing with two players in split-screen mode on a single Nintendo Switch console, the screen of the player who scores first will no longer follow the other player.
- Motion Controls has been changed so that the character will not automatically move when the pause menu is open during online play.
- Adjusted the difficulty level of the goal to clear XC Golf at Ridgerock Lake.
- Changes have been made to the game balance, and other issues, to make for a better play experience.
Ver. 1.1.0 (Released 25 June 2021)
- Battle Golf
- Added “Enable/Disable” for Rush Events. Selecting “Enable” will cause Rush Events to occur at fixed times during play.
- Golf Adventure (Adventure Mode)
- Added Challenges for Shots off tee, Approaches, and Putting. The new challenges can be accepted from the Fire Bros in each area’s practice area.
- Added lessons that teach spin use, and strategies for wind direction. The new challenges can be accepted from the Hammer Bros in each area’s practice area.
- Adjusted several scenes encountered during the Golf Adventure mode of the game.
- Motion Controls
- “Practice Swing” now displays on the screen when trying out practice swings.
- Adjusted the game balance around swing inputs.
- Online and Local Wireless Play
- Names of online opponents will now display.
- Connection errors occurring mid-game will now display.

- Adjusted the display position of text and other information displayed during play.
- Adjusted the results screen.
- In addition, adjustments have been made to the game balance, and issues have been fixed to make the game experience more enjoyable.
