Lost or Stolen Devices
The information in this article can help if a consumer or a law enforcement agency wants to report or research the theft or loss of a Nintendo device.
Please note:
- Product warranty does not cover lost or stolen items. Nintendo does not replace products that are stolen or missing.
- For reports of found devices:
- For persons who would like to report that they have found a Nintendo device: please understand that we are unable to provide any personal information about the person the device is registered to. Please turn the found device in to the lost-and-found or to a law enforcement agency/the police, who will send us a request for information about it in order to return the device to its rightful owner.
- For a law enforcement agency/police officers that would like to report a found device: please get in contact with our customer service in order to receive further information and support. Please select the below option “Law enforcement agency (Police)”.

If your device was associated with a Nintendo AccountIf your device was associated with a Nintendo Network ID (NNID)
If it is a general Nintendo AccountIf it is a supervised Nintendo Account
Please provide the following:
- Nintendo Account Sign-In ID (for more information, please see How to Create a Sign-In ID for your Nintendo Account) or Nintendo Network ID
- The NNID must be linked to the Nintendo Account (for more information, please see How to Link or Unlink a Nintendo Network ID to a Nintendo Account).
- Email address associated with the account
- Date of birth
- The serial number of your primary Nintendo console (for more information, please see How to Link a Nintendo Account to a Nintendo Switch Console and How to Set the Primary Nintendo Switch Console for a Nintendo Account) (not relevant for questions about My Nintendo Store orders)
- At least three software licenses downloaded or purchased using the account (these can be demos or free download software in case no software titles have been purchased).
Please note that if the lost/stolen device is associated with a supervised Nintendo Account, you will also need to provide the information regarding the Nintendo Account of the parent or legal guardian as listed in the "If your device was associated with a Nintendo Account" section (for more information, please see What Are the Different Roles in a Nintendo Account Family Group?).
Please provide the following:
- Sign-In ID and nickname
This information can be found by signing in to accounts.nintendo.com. A password is required (for more information, please see Forgot Nintendo Account Sign-In Info (Email Address, Password, Sign-In ID)).
Please provide the following:
- Nintendo Network ID (for more information, please see What Is the Difference Between a Nintendo Account and Nintendo Network ID?).
- Email address associated with the NNID
- Date of birth
- Mii name
- Names of at least three (full) games/apps downloaded from Nintendo eShop
- If you require a proof of ownership for your insurance company or to share with a law enforcement agency, please note that Nintendo cannot provide such information.
- You will need to report the loss/theft of your device to a law enforcement agency in order for Nintendo to share such personal information with them. Please get in contact with your local police department.
- Unfortunately, we are unable to remotely format a device or remotely block a Nintendo Account from being used.
