What's New

A huge adventure awaits in Monster Hunter™ Generations! If you’re a fresh-faced recruit, you can take things at your own pace, learning the ropes as you go and tackling fun missions that’ll ease you into the action, whereas returning hunters can jump directly into action and start advancing through quests.

CI16_3DS_MonsterHunterGenerations_TheWycademyWantsYou.jpg

The Wycademy wants you!

The Wycademy is hiring hunters to help research monsters and their habitats. Head to the mountains of Bherna Village where, after becoming a Wycademy Hunter, you can board an airship and travel freely between three other settlements in need of your help!

It’s not just your weapon that defines how you fight, but your Hunting Style too! There are four unique styles to choose from, and each will bolster your strategic options in different ways. You can switch between these styles at your item box in your house at any time.

  • Aerial Style: launch yourself into the air using barrels, monsters or even other players. While airborne, mount foes from mid-air or execute a jumping attack!
  • Guild Style: a good all-rounder style. This set-up should be familiar to returning hunters, and focuses on the mastery of your chosen weapon.
  • Adept Style: block, evade or counter incoming moves with special moves based on your choice of weapon. Master their timing to stay on the offensive!
  • Striker Style: arm yourself with up to three Hunter Arts at once. Your Arts Gauge will fill when you take damage, so come back swinging with Hunter Art combos!

CI7_3DS_MonsterHunterGenerations_ArtAttack.gif

Art Attack

Add some new moves to your repertoire with Hunter Arts. Fill your Arts Gauge by chaining attacks together and unleash spectacular moves to dodge incoming dangers, heal other players or deliver a powerful strike!

You can acquire Hunter Arts by completing quests in the Hunters Hub, but remember: the number of Arts you can bring with you depends on your Hunting Style. Choose wisely!

On the prowl

In Prowler mode, you’ll fight, forage, and go forth as a Prowler. You can switch between hunter and Prowler mode between quests and carry on your adventures as either!

CI7_3DS_MonsterHunterGenerations_GreatMaccaoPalicol.jpg

They may be smaller and furrier than your typical hunter, but don’t let their appearance fool you! Prowlers benefit from such envious abilities as boundless stamina, easier gathering and a supply of health-replenishing Acorns that allow you to leap straight back into action after fainting. Thanks to their cat-like nature, Prowlers also have nine lives to rely on and can faint three times before it counts as a single defeat. Don’t forget, your party is only allowed three defeats per quest!

Prowlers can embark on any quest, and there are even missions that only Prowlers can accept. You can hunt as a Prowler in solo play, or with friends in local or online multiplayer!

You can also use scraps crafted from other weapons and equipment to deck out your Prowler with new gear!

CI7_3DS_MonsterHunterGenerations_ExpectTheUnexpected.jpg

Expect the unexpected

An assortment of adversaries, new and old, are eager to put you through your paces, but none quite compare to Hyper and Deviant Monsters! Both types of adversary are based on familiar foes but each type has its own unique differences.

Hyper Monsters closely resemble their normal counterparts; aside from the glowing aura around certain body parts that highlights a deadly new appendage or weakness. Deviant Monsters, on the other hand, are much bigger and more ferocious looking thanks to their enlarged fangs or horns. Deviants also have surprising attacks and personalities to deal with too!

It won’t be an easy task but the rewards for toppling these two new terrors will help you to craft some of the best weapons and equipment around!

Gameplay

As a hunter, it’s your duty to take up a weapon and use it against all manner of beasts, including those causing trouble for struggling villages. Head out into the wild and sharpen your skills in hundreds of challenging quests, and clash with a bountiful bevy of behemoths!

Monsters will make quick work of impatient aggressors who haven’t prepared a tactical approach. You’ll have study your prey’s behaviour, master evading its onslaught of attacks and identify its weaknesses to conquer the creature. With each successful hunt, craft stronger weapons and armour using your spoils and carved monster parts to take on the best and the biggest out there!

A fated fight

Your hunting grounds on this occasion include a variety of locations that series fans may recognise from previous games, and some brand new areas, too!

As you step out into the sprawling landscapes, be prepared to cross paths with a diverse collection of colossal enemies. Among them are The Fated Four, a quartet of unruly fiends that are likely to cause some trouble for you on your adventures. Find out more about these ferocious foes:

Veteran players will also see some fan-favourite fauna such as Rathalos and Tigrex returning for another scrap-up. But beware – some familiar faces may appear as Deviant or Hyper Monsters with terrifying new personalities and dangerous new abilities. Only the bravest should seek out these brutes!

Ready for battle

Once you’ve chosen your quarry, it’s time to pick the right weapon for the job. A broad arsenal of 14 weapons is at your disposal including swords, blades, hammers, horns, lances, bows and more!

Just like battling monsters, understanding the capabilities of your weapon is essential to your success as a hunter. With weightier weapons such as the Hammer or Great Sword, you’ll trade off agility in return for more powerful melee attacks, whereas using ranged options like a Bow, Heavy Bowgun or Light Bowgun will help to put a safer distance between you and your target. You can also opt for versatile weaponry like the Charge Blade, which can transform between a sword and shield form, and an axe form.

As you become accustomed to each weapon, discover new moves and combos that will prove priceless in a pinch, and upgrade your weapons as you progress to prepare for the challenges ahead!

Stylish slayer

As well as your weapon, you can also customise your warrior further with Hunting Styles and Hunter Arts. Four different styles offer ways to augment your tactics; whether you focus on mounting monsters using Aerial Style, or maximising the number of Hunter Arts that can be equipped with Striker Style, there’s a style to suit anyone!

CI7_3DS_MonsterHunterGenerations_StylishSlayer.gif

Hunter Arts are spectacular special moves that can be used – once your Arts Gauge is full – to evade lethal attacks, give your teammates a quick health boost or unleash your own almighty assaults! Your choice of Hunting Style will determine how many Arts you can carry into battle, so find the right combination that works for you or change your Style and Arts between quests.

Be prepared

Of course, any hunter worth their salt knows that the most powerful weapon of all is preparation! Before heading out, be sure to stock up on Mega Potions, clad yourself in armour to counter your foe’s elemental powers and bring the essentials with you, such as bug nets, traps and pickaxes. When you’re out in the wild, forage for resources and keep yourself topped up for future expeditions.

Before an important assignment, chow down on a delicious meal to dish out extra damage or give you a much needed stamina boost. We’ll have the Vigorous Stir-fry with Tantalizing Tartar please!

Take control

It doesn’t take much for a battle to go awry, so when you need to take control of the situation, the Nintendo 3DS Touch Screen is a good place to start. You can configure the Touch Screen to gain quick access to your map and items. You can also lock the camera onto your quarry to keep it in your sights! On New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL, you can map Hunter Arts to the ZL and ZR Buttons to stay on top of the action, and use the built-in C Stick to enjoy dual analogue controls.

CI7_3DS_MonsterHunterGenerations_BestPals.jpg

Best pals

If slaying solo ain’t cutting it, why not hire a Palico…or two? Visit the Palico Ranch to request your very own loyal furry companions who’ll offer support you on your expeditions. Palicos aren’t just great at distracting behemoths: they have special abilities such as keeping your health topped up or fighting back with their own Team Attacks. Train them up properly and equip them with gear to keep them fighting fit!

Multiplayer

They say that nothing quite matches the thrill and camaraderie of stalking, tracking and conquering as a party! Whether you’re a hunter or a Prowler, band together with up to three other players and work as a team to topple behemoths and share in the spoils of success.

Get this party started

Joining forces with up to three other friends for online* or local co-operative multiplayer fun couldn’t be easier! Start by forming a party with players online or team up with friends offline via Local Play. You can also use the Hunter Search function to seek out potential allies nearby and, if you’re short a hunter or two, why not bring your Palicoes along with you?

Found a player who enjoys long walks along the Jurassic Frontier as much as you do? By adding them to your Friends List, you can see when they’re online and join forces once more!

Gather round

When it comes to planning your next multiplayer adventure, there is no better place to do so than the Hunters Hub. This all-in-one destination has everything you’ll ever need; a well-stocked shop, a chef serving up delicious meals, a smithy for crafting new gear, even a bed for a quick snooze. You’ll never want to leave…except to go on your next hunt of course!

Strength in numbers

In addition to the main storyline, there are even more quests waiting for you in the Hunters Hub. Just register with the Guild Manager to get started and, as you complete quests, increase your Hunter Rank to seek out bigger and better quarry!

There is nothing stopping you from taking on these missions solo, but keep in mind that the Hunters Hub specialises in hunts for parties of up to four players. Expect quests with harsher conditions that are likely to keep a quartet of experienced hunters on their toes.

A call to arms

With StreetPass, you can exchange Guild Cards with other players and hire them to complete quests on your behalf! You’ll also earn tickets that allow you to challenge special Deviant Monsters and, if you defeat them, earn materials to make powerful new weapons and equipment.
