How to Use the LAN Play Feature of Super Mario Maker 2

Important
- The Nintendo Switch dock is not compatible with Nintendo Switch Lite. However, a USB LAN adapter can be connected to a Nintendo Switch Lite system using a licensed accessory.
- To access the LAN Play feature in Super Mario Maker 2, you must update the game to version 1.1.0 or higher.
Super Mario Maker 2 supports LAN play, allowing players to connect multiple Nintendo Switch consoles and play together over a wired connection. Before you get started, you'll need the following items:
- Super Mario Maker 2 (physical or download)
- Nintendo Switch dock
- LAN adapter (only required when using a dock without a LAN port)
- Ethernet cable
- Television
- Wired router to connect the consoles via a wired connection. Depending on the number of consoles connected, a network switch may also be needed to connect all players.
Complete these steps
- Create a wired internet connection on each Nintendo Switch console.
Important
- All of the Nintendo Switch consoles must be connected to the same, shared router to use the LAN Play feature.
- If your router does not have enough LAN ports for every console you wish to connect, a network switch can be connected to the router to provide additional LAN ports.
- Have a player create a room and act as a lobby host.
- Launch Super Mario Maker 2 and press the ZR and ZL Buttons simultaneously on the title screen.
- Select Play, then select Course World from the main menu.
- A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to access Course World.
- Select Network Play, then hold the Left Stick in and press the L and R Buttons.
- If done correctly, the LAN Play menu will appear.
- Select Create a room, then choose a course to play and wait for other players to join.
- Have the other players join the room.
- Launch Super Mario Maker 2 and press the ZR and ZL Buttons simultaneously on the title screen.
- Select Play, then select Course World from the main menu.
- A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to access Course World.
- Select Network Play, then hold the Left Stick in and press the L and R Buttons.
- If done correctly, the LAN Play menu will appear.
- Select the name of the host player to join the room.
- When everyone is ready, follow the onscreen instructions to begin the course.
