Nintendo Switch Pro Controller Power Issues

    Description:

    • The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller does not power on, cannot be charged or the battery charge does not last very long.

    Additional Information:

    • The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller takes approximately 6 hours to fully charge.
    • When fully charged, the battery for the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller can last approximately 40 hours. This may be shorter depending on the software and functions being used.

    What to Do:

    1. Reset the AC adapter by leaving it unplugged from both ends for at least 30 seconds.
      • While performing this step, verify that you are using the Nintendo Switch AC adapter (model no. HAC-002) or another compatible AC adapter and check for any cuts, kinks, frayed cables, etc. Requirements for compatible AC adapters can be found in the Important information leaflet.
      • If any damage is found or if a different charger is being used, replacing it with the correct accessory may resolve the problem.
    2. Connect the Nintendo Switch AC adapter directly to the Pro Controller and to a wall socket.
      • While charging, the recharge LED on the Pro Controller will remain lit. (Once the battery charge is complete, the recharge LED will switch off.)

Did the recharge LED on the Pro Controller come on?

    1. Power on the Nintendo Switch console and press any button on the Pro Controller.
      • If the player LEDs turn on momentarily, then switch off, the Pro Controller will need to be paired.
      • If the recharge LED remains lit while the AC adapter is plugged in but the player LEDs do not turn on, allow the Pro Controller to charge for at least 15 to 30 minutes. Then pair it to the console.

    Situation Not Resolved:

If any of the scenarios below apply, the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller will need to be repaired:

    • The Pro Controller has charged for at least 15 to 30 minutes, but the player LEDs will not turn on at all when a button is pressed.
    • The battery charge on the Pro Controller does not last very long even after charging for at least 6 hours.

    Please contact our Customer Support.

    1. If the recharge LED does not turn on at all, test the AC adapter by connecting it directly to the console.

    Is the AC adapter working?

    1. Try the following:
      • Use a different wall sock.
      • If possible, use a different Nintendo Switch AC adapter.
        • If another AC adapter works with the console, the original Nintendo Switch AC adapter will need to be replaced.

    1. Connect the AC adapter to the Nintendo Switch dock and to a wall socket, then connect the included USB charging cable to the dock and to the Pro Controller.
      • The Nintendo Switch console does not need to be docked in order to charge the Pro Controller.

Did the recharge LED on the Pro Controller power on after a few seconds?

Continue using the console and Pro Controller as usual and monitor the situation.

    1. Try the following:
      • Use a different USB port on the dock.
      • Use a different USB charging cable.
      • If possible, use a different dock.

    Situation Not Resolved:

If the Pro Controller is still unable to charge, it will need to be repaired.
