Update from the Squid Research Lab: Ver 3.0 is now live!
25/04/2018
A huge update is now available for Splatoon 2 on Nintendo Switch, adding loads of fresh (and free!*) new content. Let’s take a deep dive into Ver 3.0 and see what we can uncover…
Rank X
Show you’ve got what it takes to ink your way to the top with Rank X – a hardcore new rank above S+! If you’re already ranked S+10 then you’ll automatically be registered as X Rank after downloading the update – neato!
This extremely challenging Ranked Battle experience will see the best of the best battle it out for an X Power level, rather than the usual Rank Meter. Once a month, 500 players with the highest X Power level for each of the four different Ranked Battle modes will be announced in the SplatNet2 section of the Nintendo Switch Online app.
But wait, there’s more! According to our research, X Power levels will be reset on the last day of each month, and if your X Power level ends up lower than a set threshold then you’ll rank down to S+9. The first reset takes place on May 31st so be sure to mark it in your calendar if you’re hoping to stay on top of your game!
New stages
After the release of Piranha Pit in March, we’ve discovered that another fan-favourite stage is making its long-anticipated return. That’s right, Camp Triggerfish has now been added to Splatoon 2!
That’s not all! Keep your eyes peeled for more brand new stages coming soon, including Wahoo World. This place is said to be the most popular dating spot for all the hippest Inklings.
New weapons
With today’s update, four new weapons have also been added. These latest arrivals give you even more opportunity to strategise and find a loadout that works for you!
New gear
Whether you’re looking for a fresh new look or something retro this summer, Ver 3.0 has you covered! This new update adds more than 100 pieces of gear – some new, some returning from the original game!
New songs
The chiptune four-piece Chirpy Chips are storming back up the Inkopolis charts with two fresh tunes: Blitz It! and Wave Prism. Make sure you listen out for these new tracks while you’re out claiming turf!
Callie’s back!
Speaking of music, we’ve heard rumours that Callie of the Squid Sisters fame has been spotted hanging out with Marie at the Tentakeel Outpost in Octo Canyon. Word has it that after meeting a certain condition, Callie will show up to offer recent news and fun stats on your play style.
Phew! We’ve covered quite a lot today! The world of Splatoon 2 continues to evolve, so don’t miss out! You can join the Facebook Splatoon community to keep up to date with all the latest, or follow us on Twitter @NintendoVSUK.
Splatoon 2 is available in stores and as a downloadable version from Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch now.
