Follow these steps if you receive the error code 2164-0056 while using Nintendo Switch.

This error typically means that the Nintendo Switch console attempted to connect to the internet, but the connection was interrupted.

    Before you start

You need access to the following to perform this troubleshooting:

    • Your Nintendo Switch console
    • Your router and/or modem

    Possible solutions

Are you using a wireless or wired internet connection?

Test whether the error still occurs in the same situation after each step below to determine if the change to your Nintendo Switch console or network settings resolves your issue.

    • Restart the software you were using when the error occurred.
    • Remove your console from the Nintendo Switch dock. Bring it within 3 to 4.5 metres (10 to 15 feet) of the wireless router to improve signal strength during troubleshooting.
    • How to restart a Nintendo Switch console
      1. Press and hold the POWER Button for at least three seconds.
      2. Select Power Options.
      3. Select Restart.
    • Console does not respond

Hold down the POWER Button for twelve seconds to force it to shut down, then power on the console again.

    • Check that the Nintendo Switch console has not been placed into flight mode.

Press and hold the HOME Button for at least one second to access Quick Settings and view the flight mode setting. Flight mode must be disabled if you wish to connect to a wireless network.

    • Create a new wireless internet connection. This will help ensure that your console is attempting to connect to the correct wireless network and that it is receiving a strong wireless signal. For help connecting your Nintendo Switch console to the internet, please see this article.
    • Power cycle your home network.
    • Move any metal objects or electronic devices away from your Nintendo Switch console and wireless router. This includes filing cabinets, speakers, power strips, glass or cordless phones that may interfere with wireless signals.
    • Connect to the internet at a different location or access point like a friend or family member's home or a retailer with a public network.
