The following tips and solutions might help your situation. Please try them before contacting Customer Support.
1. Remove the disc and reboot the system
Please do not try this when Wii U is downloading or installing updates.
a) Remove the disc by pressing the EJECT Button once.
b) Press and hold the POWER Button until your console powers off. When the light turns to red, remove the Wii U AC Adapter.
c) Wait for a few minutes, and then plug it in again. Press the POWER Button to turn it on.
d) Insert the game disc and try again.
2. System Update
Is your Wii U system up to date? Please follow the instructions below to ensure your device is running the latest version.
a) Select System Settings on the Wii U Menu.
b) Scroll to the right and find System Update, then tap the icon.
c) Tap Update to begin the update. If you receive a message telling you that your system is already up to date, tap OK to end the process. If it shows a version you can install, follow the instructions to proceed with the system update.
Please note: keep the GamePad plugged in during the update as it may take a while.
3. Re-download
If the error occurs only when you are playing a specific game, the update game data that your system has installed recently may be causing the problem. Please follow the next steps to delete the update, and then re-download it again.
a) Go to System Settings on the Wii U Menu, then scroll to the right and tap on Data Management.
b) Select Copy/Move/Delete Data > System Memory. Select the game/application you wish to delete the update of, and then tap the update you desire to delete.
Please note: do not select “Save Data”, only “Update Data” should be deleted.
c) Start the game as usual. The system will detect the updates automatically and guide you to re-download them.
