Spotlight on Wii U: Off-TV Play
27/02/2013
Picture the scene: you’ve had a tiring day, but you’re ready to forget all about it by escaping into a favourite game… and then it turns out that someone else has reserved the telly for the night! Not to worry – Wii U allows you to play stacks of games completely free from the TV, giving you a full home console experience in your hands.
Because the Wii U GamePad’s 6.2-inch touch screen has a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio, you won’t miss a thing by playing on the GamePad instead of the TV. Not to mention the built-in stereo speakers bringing you clear, crisp audio, or the option to plug in some headphones for those times when you want to really immerse yourself.
Leap into action as Mario in New Super Mario Bros. U where you can play through the whole adventure in single-player and take on tons of tricky Challenges too without even needing to turn the TV on. You can’t say fairer than that, can you? Other titles that let you keep on playing on the GamePad alone include Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Mass Effect 3 Special Edition, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Batman: Arkham City Armoured Edition, Darksiders II and more.
Wii Fit U will also let you weigh in and work out in selected exercises without needing to have the TV on. There are plenty of other titles on the way that will let you get your game on, TV-free, too.
It’s not just games that you can enjoy on the Wii U GamePad while the TV is in use, either. Strike up a conversation and video chat with other Wii U owners through Wii U Chat, browse the web and watch online videos with the Internet browser.
Off-TV play is just part of the unique experience that is Wii U. Find out all about Miiverse, brand new kinds of multiplayer and games you won’t find anywhere else at the official Wii U website.
