Forgot Nintendo Account Sign-In Info (Email Address, Password, Sign-In ID)
You have forgotten the sign-in information (email address, password or Sign-In ID) associated with your Nintendo Account.
Important:
- If you have registered a passkey with your Nintendo Account but are unable to sign in using it, please refer to Unable to sign in to Nintendo Account using a Passkey.
- If you have enabled 2-step verification for your Nintendo Account but cannot access the code required to sign in, please refer to Issues with Nintendo Account 2-Step Verification Code.
- If you have changed your preferences to allow sign-in with your Sign-In ID only, you will not be able to use your email address to sign in. You will need to use your Sign-In ID to sign in to your Nintendo Account.

Were you able to sign in?
If you were able to sign in, then you're all set!
- After signing in, you can review your sign-in information through the Nintendo Account website:
- Email address: Your email address will be displayed in the Email address section under Sign-In and Security Settings. If you'd like to update your email address, you can do so by opening the Email address section.
- Sign-In ID: Your current Sign-In ID can be found in the Sign-In ID section under Sign-In and Security Settings. If you'd like to update your Sign-In ID, you can do so by opening the Sign-In ID section.
- Password: For security purposes, your password is never visible. If you wish to change your password, select Sign-In and Security Settings, then open the Password section.

You can view part of the email address associated with your Nintendo Account in User Settings on your Nintendo Switch console, and, if you know your Nintendo Account password, can review the complete email address:
- On the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu, select your user icon.
- Select User Settings.
- The first two characters of the email address associated with your Nintendo Account and the first letter of the domain name of the email address will appear after Nintendo Account.
- If you know your password, select Check Account Information and enter your password when prompted to view the full email associated with your Nintendo Account.
Were you able to locate the Nintendo Account email address?
If this information resolved your issue, then you’re all set!
- After signing in to your Nintendo Account, you can update your email address to something you will remember in the future.
If you do not remember your Nintendo Account email address and are unable to locate it using your Nintendo Switch console, please contact us for support.
If you have forgotten your Sign-In ID, try using your email address to sign in instead.
Important: If you have changed your preferences to allow sign in with your Sign-In ID only you will not be able to use your email address to sign in, and may receive a message stating that "The email address/Sign-In ID or password is incorrect".
Were you able to sign in using your email address?
If you are able to sign in using your email address, then you’re all set!
- After signing in to your Nintendo Account, you can find your current Sign-In ID in the Sign-In ID section under Sign-In and Security Settings. If you'd like to update your Sign-In ID, you can do so by opening the Sign-In ID section.
- However, if you prefer to use your Sign-In ID instead of your email address when signing in, we recommend changing your Sign-In ID to something you will remember in the future.
- If you are unable to sign in using your email address, it is likely that your Sign-In Method Preference is set to Sign-In ID Only.
- Your Sign-In ID can be found in the Nintendo Account section in User Settings on your Nintendo Switch console.
- From the HOME Menu, select the System Settings icon, scroll down and select User, then select your user. The first three characters of the Sign-In ID will be displayed in parentheses after Nintendo Account.
- If you know your password, you can select Check Account Information, then View Sign-In ID and sign in using your password to view the complete Sign-In ID.
Were you able to locate your Sign-In ID?
If you are able to sign in using your Sign-In ID, then you’re all set!
- After signing in, you can change your Sign-In ID to something you will remember more easily in the future.
If you do not remember your Sign-In ID and were unable to locate it using your Nintendo Switch console, please contact us for support.
- Select the Forgot your password? link on the sign-in page.
- Trying to sign in with Google or Apple Account, but forgot password
If you are trying to sign in using your Google or Apple Account, but have forgotten your password for that account, visit Google or Apple support and use their Help area for directions to update your password.
You may also have created a password for your Nintendo Account. If that is the case, you can instead continue with these steps to reset your Nintendo Account password and sign in.

- Enter the email address associated with your Nintendo Account.
- Select Submit to have a temporary sign-in link sent to your email address.
- Password email does not arrive, or no access to email inbox
If you do not receive the password reset email, this may mean that the email address you entered is incorrect or is not associated with a Nintendo Account. Verify your email address and follow the process to send the temporary email again.
If you still do not receive the email after verifying your email address, or if you no longer have access to the email address associated with your Nintendo Account, please contact us for support.
- Password email does not arrive, or no access to email inbox
- Select the link in the email.
- If you have 2-step verification set up for your Nintendo Account, you will be prompted to verify your identity using Google Authenticator. Launch the Google Authenticator app on your smart device, enter the code it displays and select Verify.
- No access to Google Authenticator
If you do not currently have access to the app, select Use another method to verify your identity and use one of the backup codes you received and saved in a safe place when setting up 2-step verification.
- No access to backup codes
If you do not currently have access to your backup codes but have registered a phone number to your Nintendo Account, select Use another method to verify your identity on the "Enter a backup code" screen, then Submit. A code will be sent via text message to your phone number. Enter it in the "Verification code" box and select Verify to verify your identity.
If you can't find your backup codes and did not register a phone number to your Nintendo Account, you will not be able to reset your password. Please contact us for support.
- No access to Google Authenticator
- If you have registered a phone number to your Nintendo Account, you may be prompted to enter a verification code that is sent to your phone number. Enter the verification code and select Verify.
- Verification text message does not arrive
If the text message with the verification code does not arrive within a few minutes, make sure you are checking the phone number that is registered to your Nintendo Account.
If you are unable to locate the text message with the verification code, you will not be able to reset your password. Please contact us for support.

- Enter and confirm a new password.
- Do not include your birthdate as part of the password. An error message will appear if you include your birthdate and you will be prompted to select a different password.
- Please keep in mind that passwords must be at least 8 characters long and include a combination of characters from 2 of the following categories: letters, numbers and punctuation.
- If prompted, enter the birthdate or nickname associated with your Nintendo Account. Please make sure you are entering your Nintendo Account nickname and not your Sign-In ID (if you have created one).

- If you have forgotten the nickname associated with your Nintendo Account, you can find it in various ways.
- How to find your Nintendo Account nickname
- Check the email inbox of your Nintendo Account email address for emails from no-reply@accounts.nintendo.com. Your nickname can be found in certain emails from this address, including notifications sent when you created the account, signed in to a new device or made changes to your family group or Parental Controls.
- If you are signed in to your Nintendo Account on a Nintendo Switch console, in the "Nintendo Account" section of the User Settings.
- From the HOME Menu, select the System Settings icon, scroll down and select User, select your user, then select Check Account Information. Your Nintendo Account nickname will be displayed.
- If you are part of a Nintendo Account family group, ask one of the other members of your family group to sign in to the Nintendo Account website and select Family Group. The nicknames of all the members of the group will be displayed.
- How to find your Nintendo Account nickname
- If you are unable to find the nickname associated with your Nintendo Account, try entering your date of birth instead.
- If you have forgotten the nickname associated with your Nintendo Account, you can find it in various ways.

If you do not remember the date of birth associated with your Nintendo Account, try entering your nickname instead.
However, even if you are able to reset your password using your nickname, keep in mind that, as described in the Nintendo Account Agreement, when you create your Nintendo Account you must provide us with accurate information, including the correct date of birth.
If you entered an incorrect date of birth when you created your Nintendo Account, please contact us for support.
- Forgot account nickname
- Select Sign In. This will reset your password and sign you in to your Nintendo Account.
- We recommend visiting the "Sign-In and Security Settings" section to make note of your "Sign-In Method". Depending on this setting, you may need to use your Sign-In ID instead of your email address when signing in.
Your sign-in information can be verified and reset through your parent/guardian’s Nintendo Account.
What sign-in information did you forget?
- To verify your Sign-In ID, have your parent/guardian sign in to their Nintendo Account and select Family Group. All associated accounts for children will appear.
- Have them select your account to open your account settings.
- Have them select Sign-In and Security Settings.
- Part of your Sign-in ID will appear in the "Sign-in ID" section.
- If you still do not remember your Sign-in ID, have them select Edit next to "Sign-in ID", then enter their Nintendo Account password.
- Your full Sign-in ID will appear. Keep in mind that your Sign-in ID does not need to be changed if you think you will remember it—have your parent/guardian select Cancel to keep the current Sign-in ID.
If you have forgotten your password, have your parent/guardian reset your password through their Nintendo Account.
