When King Zephiel of Bern in eastern Elibe begins ordering the invasions of his neighbors, Roy leads an army to resist Bern's aggression. His keen eye for strategy and flexible tactics win him a number of victories, but he soon finds himself outmatched by the powerful War Dragons summoned by Zephiel's Dark Priestess, Idunn.
Roy travels throughout Elibe, gathering ancient weapons left behind by legendary heroes in order to combat these War Dragons. Once he is strong enough, he marches on Bern itself and lays Zephiel low. Within the Dragon Temple he learns that Idunn is a Demon Dragon, a creature brought forth by the dragons to combat humans in the Scouring—a war that occurred a thousand years prior.
Armed with this knowledge, Roy uses the power of the Binding Blade, a weapon once wielded by a great hero, to bring the long conflict to its decisive end.
