Choose the family that raised you or side with your true homeland when Fire Emblem Fates launches in Europe this Friday
17/05/2016
17th May, 2016 – After the series’ best-ever launch in the United States earlier this year, strategy fans across Europe are preparing to make a difficult choice: fight for the family that raised them in Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest or fight for their true homeland in Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright, two new entries in the long-running strategic RPG series that release this Friday, exclusively for Nintendo 3DS family systems.
Raised as royalty in the Nohr kingdom, main character Corrin’s life is forever changed when it is revealed that they were actually born to the neighbouring land of Hoshido, and were kidnapped as a child by the evil King Garon. Now both nations are on the brink of war, and the player must choose whether to protect the homeland of Hoshido in Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright, or to side with the family who raised Corrin and put a stop to Garon’s machinations in Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest. The story is completed on 9th June with the download-only release of Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation, which sees players refuse to choose a side, and exposes the truth about the two kingdoms’ war.
Depending on the side chosen, the story will change drastically, providing wholly different experiences suited for differing player tastes and experience levels. Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright players can take on Challenge Maps to gain additional experience and money whenever they choose, making it ideal for beginners or those who first encountered the series in Fire Emblem: Awakening. Meanwhile, Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest contains a different cast of recruitable characters and doesn’t contain Challenge Maps, making character growth harder and finances more scarce, creating a tougher experience that will be familiar to veterans of the older games in the Fire Emblem series.
These new Fire Emblem Fates games for Nintendo 3DS have already proven themselves a hit with critics across Europe:
- IGN, 9.5 out of 10 – "Amazing"
- Nintendo Life, 9 out of 10 – "Fire Emblem Fates does a remarkable job delivering what newcomers and long-time players both could possibly want out of this series"
- Nintendo Insider, 9 out of 10 – "a masterful strategy experience"
More details about the creation of these two games are available with the Developer’s Commentary videos, now available on the Nintendo YouTube channel and the Fire Emblem Fates gamepage. The third video, A Tale of Two Families – Revelation, and the Fire Emblem Fates Launch Trailer, are also both available to watch now.
Starting on 20th May, downloadable content in the form of new maps will also be released on a regular basis. You can choose to buy each of these maps individually, or purchase Map Pack 1 for £16.19 / €17.99 to get access to all 11 maps, plus bonus content, as they are released. Map Pack 1 offers players a discount when compared to buying everything individually.
Fire Emblem Fates will also release as a Limited Edition, featuring a Game Card with all three story paths included, an artbook, a landscape dual-sided poster and an exclusive SteelBook® case. This Limited Edition also lets players get their hands on the Revelation story path before it releases on Nintendo eShop at the later date of 9th June. Also launching on 20th May is the New Nintendo 3DS XL Fire Emblem Fates Edition*, and a set of new cover plates for New Nintendo 3DS systems featuring the warring families. Finally, anyone purchasing Fire Emblem Fates via Nintendo eShop in the first four weeks after launch will also receive a free download code for the Two Kingdoms theme.**
