Solgaleo and Lunala are the cover stars of Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, coming exclusively to Nintendo 3DS family systems on November 23rd. Let’s take a look back at some of the other super iconic and most recognisable Pokémon of all time – the ones on the box!

Charizard
Type: Fire/Flying
Charizard flies around the sky in search of powerful opponents. It breathes fire of such great heat that it melts anything. However, it never turns its fiery breath on any opponent weaker than itself. Charizard also features on the box art of Pokémon FireRed.
Blastoise
Type: Water
Blastoise has water spouts that protrude from its shell. The water spouts are very accurate. They can shoot bullets of water with enough accuracy to strike empty cans from a distance of over 160 feet.
Pikachu
Type: Electric
This Pokémon has electricity-storing pouches on its cheeks. These appear to become electrically charged during the night while Pikachu sleeps. It occasionally discharges electricity when it is dozy after waking up.

Ho-Oh
Type: Fire/Flying
Ho-Oh's feathers glow in seven colours depending on the angle at which they are struck by light. These feathers are said to bring happiness to the bearers. This Pokémon is said to live at the foot of a rainbow.
Lugia
Type: Psychic/Flying
Lugia's wings pack devastating power – a light fluttering of its wings can blow apart regular houses. As a result, this Pokémon chooses to live out of sight deep under the sea.
Suicune
Type: Water
Suicune embodies the compassion of a pure spring of water. It runs across the land with gracefulness. This Pokémon has the power to purify dirty water.
Ho-Oh and Lugia also feature on the box art of Pokémon HeartGold Version and Pokémon SoulSilver Version.

Groudon
Type: Ground
Groudon is said to be the personification of the land itself. Legends tell of its many clashes against Kyogre, as each sought to gain the power of nature.
Kyogre
Type: Water
Through Primal Reversion and with nature's full power, it will take back its true form. It can summon storms that cause the sea levels to rise.
Rayquaza
Type: Dragon/Flying
Rayquaza is said to have lived for hundreds of millions of years. Legends remain of how it put to rest the clash between Kyogre and Groudon.
Groudon and Kyogre also feature on the box art of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire in their Primal forms.

Type: Steel/Dragon
A Pokémon spoken of in legend. It is said that time began moving when Dialga was born.
Palkia

Giratina
Type: Ghost/Dragon
This Pokémon is said to live in a world on the reverse side of ours, where common knowledge is distorted and strange.

Lunala

Since ancient times, Lunala has been honoured as an emissary of the moon. Referred to with reverence as “the beast that calls the moon”, Lunala is constantly absorbing light and converting it into energy. With its wings spread to absorb the surrounding light and glittering like the crescent moon, it resembles a beautiful night sky.
